Forums, helping others, perspective on opinions 07-07-2007 - 10:50 AM
I wanted to state as a precursor when reading posts on forums - Take suggestions as an "idea" or "option", especially mine, only when your age and circumstances are similar to the person replying to your post.

I feel badly when I read posts from sisters that are in emotional and physical distress since their surgeries. I pray everyone could find the right Dr's to help with their specific needs, addressing HRT that is designed for their unique circumstances and age appropriate.
When I read posts from a sister in distress who is in surgical menopause in her 20's and her Dr. is treating her HRT like that of a 50+ women in natural menopause, it frustrates me.
When I read a post from someone who is in their late 30's sufferering, and their Dr tells them they don't need progesterone because they don't have a uterus , it frustrates me.
The frustration I feel stems from what I find as a complacent attitude towards Dr's by not taking advanced seminars on the latest studies and therapies available to us now.

Common sense tells me just because a women does not have her uterus, the hormone that addressed the organ also took care of her brain function that regulates all systemic actions. Same thing goes for the ovaries, as we know too well.
The Brain still needs the hormones related to those organs to function "normally" and feel emotional balanced. That's the part the doctors so often don't seem to get!
If you had these organs removed years before you should have gone into menopause, your needs will be different than a women in her late 40's or 50's that just had a hysterectomy.
So then if natural menopause related to aging is a different HRT need, we as patients need to make sure our Dr's are making that distinction when suggesting treatment. If you still have 1 ovary, it changes the needs, also. If you tolerate synthetic hormones, your needs are different from a woman that can not. If you have or had cancer, different again.
Talk to your Dr's and ask them if they understand this concept critical concept of HRT, and if they don't, then you will know why you don't feel your best. I found my Dr through a sister here and both of us are getting really good results. Be diligent, ask questions, and fire doctors that aren't giving you the relief that's possible.
God Bless this website for the wealth of information available here and all the lovely, caring women that do their best to help others.
