Scared about constipation

I was doing so well (sept 4 LH - not ovaries) and then the gas started and the constipation and now I'm in pain in my bowels. Is it normal for everything in there to be so shockingly tender? My incision and abdomen seem fine in comparison to my butt and bowels. I've done an enema and a suppository a couple of days ago but no action since then. And that was brutal. But now I am so miserable. Should I call the dr again?

OMG!!!!

I am having the same type pain. It hurts in my butt. It is excrutiating pain that I feel when I do have to have a BM. It has been mostly today. I also noticed that it felt as if something were starting to come out of my vagina....I think it was my pad just needed repositioning but it felt like something was coming out.

As far as my bowels, when it does get bad I give myself a glycerin supp and have done well as long as I hold it in as long as I can.

I have no idea why I get more discomfort when I am going to bathroom for a BM rather than just urinating. I also feel that when I am getting these cramps I get more bleeding vaginally.

As for calling my doc, well to be honest I feel like a pain.

But if it gets to the point where I can't take it I will call.

I am glad I am not alone. I had a TVH. Kept my ovaries and tubes.

[font=Comic Sans MS]Good Afternoon!! I'm new here and have been lurking for the last day or so. I had a TAH (I think that's the right abbr. for it) Binkini incision. kept my ovaries and tubes. I had my surgery on the 6th, was released in the afternoon on the 8th. Was having a hard time eating, had a very upset stomach, I think it was the percecet (not sure of the spelling there either!!) Got my staples out before I left the hospital. My husband has been great!! He hasn't left my side since Thursday morning!! Has been making me walk 2 to 3 times a day - which has helped!! Quit taking pain medicine on Tuesday morning, and was not taking it regularly since Sunday. Messes with my mind and was giving me an upset stomach. My incision doesn't hurt, yet, hurts more under my belly button, mom said it was the muscles and nerves tring to reconnect. I love reading the posts - knowing what I'm going thru is "normal". I finally had a BM today!! That was a HUGe relief, if you get my drift! Sorry this has been long winded, but haven't really talked to anybody about some of this.

Dear pjdisme,

"Anyway, my husband says I'm worrying too much and I'm trying to be patient but I'm nervous, what can I say?"

Its great to see that you are in touch with what you are feeling. I admire each and every husband that walks us through this totally confusing and irritating time in life, although, dont forget, you are the one who knows your body best. If you do start feeling concern, ring the clinic, Im not sure how it works in America although if you ring your local doctor here there is usally a clinic nurse who can help you out. Remember, the only silly questions are the ones not asked. Stay in tune with your body.

Im also gladyou are gettin gsomething from this site.

Keep up the recovery.

Hi,
I had my hyster on the 5th and everything is going really good except for my insomnia. I cannot fall asleep. I go to the Dr today at 1:00 maybe he will prescribe something for me. I don't want to get hooked on those types of things though.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

McGraw, I had a TAH on the 6th and came home on the 8th... The first night I was home I could not sleep, so the next day I really tried to just take IBprophen [that's all I really needed] and that helped me because I wasn't so drugged form the Darvocet, so I could stay awake more during the day. At night I take 1 Darvocet and have been sleeping about 6hrs and then getting up to pee and then back to bed for another 2 or3. I hope this helps, I am afraid to take the sleep aids as I do not want to depend on them either.

Morning Ladies!
I can't believe it was a week ago today that I was freaking out and so afraid of the unknown. I was in more pain before my surgery than afterwards! I had a TVH.
I just have to remember that I just had major surgery. I am having the guilts watching my family take care of me! My daughter (21) keeps telling me to take advantage of all this! LOL Its hard for me.

With each day, we will all be feeling better and better. Have a great day Ladies!

I also had TVH on the 4th and was home the next day. I am glad that I opted to stay one night as that night was the hardest for me. I am ok and have more energy and feel like I am right on track. I had some major cramps yesterday and earlier today. I think it was normal poopy cramps just with everything still healing in there I think that my cramps are just intensified cause after I go to the BR I feel fine. Today is actually beginning on a decent note. Nice trip to the BR (never thought I would say that) and I am feeling like myself. Still having itching from the panty liners but am on a mission to find some cloth pads. Don't even know where to look for those.

Well, I am going to drive my car this weekend and just slowly build my outings to be a little longer each day. Yesterday my mom took me to the casino and trust me, it didn't take long for me lose the $40 I walked in with. I couldn't take all the smoke so I left. Otherwise, things are going well. I just phoned my doc about the poopy cramps intensified and they said that everything is healing and still new so the cramping will be intensified.

Bowels, insomia, sister support

It's really nice to have this site for support and cyberhugs and the wisdom of those who've been there and to see that we are not alone.

I was soooo miserable yesterday. And I have to admit, I am a worry wart and tend to think "something's terribly wrong." My husband knows that about me which is why he tends to go to the other extreme and say "Everything's fine" when actually it's probably somewhere in the middle. No, I don't have a blocked bowel or they didn't leave something inside me that doesn't belong (like a sponge) during the surgery. But I do have excruciating pain from gas and constipation.

I can say with confidence that nothing is seriously wrong because --- drum roll --- I had a BM this morning. Last night I took 4 oz of Milk of Magnesia after drinking lots of fluids all day and a big glass of water last night. It didn't hurt, in fact the gas hurts worse. I plan to keep this routine going until I get regular. I'm also eating Activa, that yogurt with all the good bacteria in it for our intestinal flora.

Anyway, who would've thunk that having bowel issues would be worse than the actual surgery?

I had one night of insomia, and I did have a glass of ice tea in the late afternoon that day. I don't know if there is any relation, but basically I got up, checked email, wrote in my blog, then eventually crashed on the couch. Maybe if you don't fight it for a couple of nights, give in to it? Drink chamomile tea. Then again, your dr may have good suggestions.

Thanks for being there for me, and I hope I can help someone else by my trial and error experiences.

By the way, what is the abbreviation for a laparoscopic hysterectomy where only the uterus and cervix were taken?
