Appointment today

First of all thank you so much for the advice and support from my first post. It is a huge comfort to know that there are people to turn to.

Well, the first question on my list to ask was about seeing an oncology specialist. It turns out that my consultant is an oncology specialist, something I hadn't realised before. When I was first admitted with the tumour they immediately assigned me to him, just in case but didn't tell me at the time because they didn't want to scare me. The good thing as well was that he wasn't at all offended by me asking!
The results from the second opinion on my biopsy were in, and said much the same as the first histopathologist - a stage 1A, grade 1 mucinous adinocarcinoma. Although, he did read the report out to me and it appears to be between borderline and stage 1A. He said to me that if I had been 10 years older then they would have removed everything back in December when I had my tumour and left ovary removed. So the decision - I do not want to be in the situation where I am thinking that every little abdo pain is another tumour, so I am going to have a full hysterectomy but in about 6 months time. I start a new job on Monday and he and I thought that it would be best for me to get settled in there and perhaps have a holiday before having the operation done. They are going to keep a close eye on me and I am due back in on May 1st for a scan. He has also made it clear that if ever I feel the need to talk to him, then do so, and they have a specialist oncology liason nurse who is great as a sounding board and someone to talk to. I also have the full support of my boyfriend in this decision which of course also makes things easier.

This board is an absolute Godsend. I have read thru lots of the posts here, and I'm now feeling alot more positive than I did, and I can get thru this.

Wow..sounds like you struck gold with that doctor!! Thats great, that you can speak openly to him, and he seems to have taken a good deal of time with you to explain everything.

I think its great that you can put the surgery on hold for a while, and with him as your doctor, and giving you free reign to talk to him anytime, you certainly should take him up on that offer when anything at all is bothering you during your wait.

But it sounds like they are very confident that they 6 month wait will be fine, and if you are feeling good about that as well than thats great. So glad to hear the forum has helped you and made you feel better. Its been a Godsend to us all here I think.

How wonderful for you that you have found such a wonderful Dr and also wonderful that you'll be able to wait a little while before having the surgery. It sounds like you have indeed found a Dr that will be open and honest with you.

Hi All

Well I'm into my second week in my new job and I love it. It has been great to get back into the swing of life and has taken my mind off my health problems. My boss is great and very supportive. She has said that if ever I need to talk or just vent then come and see her and don't sit in silence and suffer. I'm still not sure what to tell the other people at work. They know that I had an ovarian tumour removed in December but thats it. I'm not sure whether to tell them, so that when perhaps I'm a little quiet they understand why or not. With some people you mention the word cancer to them and they look at you like they just don't know what to say to you and I don't want that and don't want to put them in that position either. Any thoughts?

The other thing is that towards the end of the day I just get so tired. It was 9 weeks ago that I had my ovary out through a midline incision so I guess I'm still feeling the effects and need to take care of myself.

The best thing was that at the end of the week I had a phone call from the specialist nurse at the hospital. My consultant had asked her to phone me just to check how I was getting on in the new job and how I was feeling. I was amazed. Indeed I do feel very lucky to have such excellent support from both my consultant and the specialist nurse.
