For those who have been through this..(gonna try to fix some hijacks)

I just want to know how much better you felt after the "procedure" and the "recovery". What is better? Your best reason as to why you had it done...or an unexpected positive to having it done.

I am starting with some anxiety and I would LOVE to hear the positives.

My doctor told me she could almost guarantee that when I am fully healed I will feel much better. But what exactly does that mean? that's where I need help from the sisters.

For those who have been through this..

I'm wondering the same thing. My mom, who hasn't had a hyster, is telling me how much better I'll feel and that I'll probably ask myself why I didn't do this sooner. My grandmother, who had a hyster in her late 50s due to heavy bleeding from fibroids, is telling me the exact same thing.

I started reading the post-op forum postings to see what others were saying. All in all pretty good and very reassuring.

I've been dealing with my anxiety okay, Valium at night when I'm at home and keeping busy at work to keep me distracted. Can't take Valium at work so I started doing yoga at work before going to bed. Wow, has that helped relax me. Go figure! My anxiety rose a notch when I checked the post-op section today and saw the forum for ladies having their hysters the week of Sept 10-17. YIKES that's me!

Back to the normal thing . . . what does normal feel like? I can't remember.

For those who have been through this..

I was surprised at how nice it is to be able to sleep naked, swim whenever I want, and wear white anytime without fear. A few months ago there was a thread about positives and it was funny and informative. I think it was called "what are the positives". It's well worth searching the archives. Good luck.

For those who have been through this..

The best part for me is not worrying about the heavy bleeding. It was great for the summer. I used to have to sit on a towel at home and even in the car. Not a lot of fun and I was always anemic. And after the surgery I found out my fibroids had actually started growing outside the uterus so when I heard that I definitely knew it was the right thing to do. Good luck and wishing you a speedy recovery.

For those who have been through this..

I had my tah/bso because of precancerous tumors. I really feel better because it was all benign and no cancer! Not having to deal with the worry about it becoming cancer is a great relief
My surgery went well and I had only minor problems in recovery. I hope that your's all go well too.

You know those are good questions. I have finally started to think it was the right decision, but it's only been a few days. The only thing is how will I feel in another week or month. The first day right after surgery I thought what in the heck did I do! The second day sooo much better, it still hurt but I could manage, the third day I was home and had myself a little pity party, but after that it's been pretty good. I think we all go through this differently and no one can really say what is best for the next person, or how you will feel physically or emotionally. Hang in there, I know you have done alot of research, and you trust your doctor. Like you, I did not have a lot of problems before the surgery, but those nasty fibroids were still growing and they had to come out. I remember one of your post was about why you were doing this, well that problem was elimated for me already. I only go pee a few times a day ,instead of every hour. ANother bonus I have lost 8 lbs, I hope I can keep that off and lose another 10. I wish you peace for these next few days.

For those who have been through this..

Having NO periods. Plus for me and I'm in the minority here-I feel sooooo much better with no hormones. More energy, feel happier. I do have hot flashes which are a major pain but way better than PMS 15 days a month. The biggest complaint I have is the recovery is very long. I feel great and am ahead of most in recovery but it really does take a year. I've gained about 10 lbs. and I still swell. The biggest thing is that I'm not at the top of my perfomance (cycling) yet. My aerobic conditioning is very slow to come back making it hard to do the long endurance rides (40-70 plus miles) without really struggling. It's Fall cycling season here and I'm a bit frustrated. It's probably not a problem for most but we all have some thing that we just can't do quite as well yet. So when the doc says it takes up to a year believe him-it really does. That being said I have absolutely no regrets doing the surgery. I'm teaching Spinning, taking Pilates, and very happy.

For those who have been through this..

I am almost 4 weeks post op. Already I feel way, way better than I did before the surgery. For the last 6 months before the surgery, I was in daily pain. It was destroying my life...couldn't work, couldn't take care of my home and family, and my sex life pretty much stopped (I would cry cuz of the pain and he didn't want to hurt me...DH and I have only been married 2 years, our anniversary was one week before my surgery and we weren't able to celebrate) In the last 3 months I had to buy new clothes 2 sizes bigger and then still grew to the point I couldn't do the zippers up on the pants. I looked 8 months preg. Didn't gain a pound though.

Now I am alittle tired but no more pain. Even the first days after surgery the pain was way less than those before. I am so glad I had it done. And I am looking forward to the clearance to have PAIN FREE sex.

Good luck to all of you waiting for your big day

For those who have been through this..

Oh...where do I start.

It has been the BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE! I have no more horrible pain, headaches, exssesive bleeding, clots, runied clothing, runied holidays, ruined SEX LIFE etc. Sex is so much better, I have energy I thought I'd lost and even though I could never have children it was still worth it, because quality of life is so important. I can actually go out and live again.

The pain after surgery was NOTHING compared to the pain before. I woke up, and although I felt neasuea, I knew it was going to be okay.

I wish you well, and you will be a new woman after this.
Take care.
