Re: Wednesday March 10th Here I Come!

i had a tlah and the worst part was the wait. i had almost no pain after the surgery, and really minimal discomfort there after. just be very very aware that no matter how good you feel, your body is still healing and you need to rest. i am now in my 4th week of recovery and really haven't had any complaints. the slight "leakage" from the internal stiches dissolving was annoying and all i can say is stay on top of the constipation. i think that can be your worst enemy. all in all is was sooo worth it. i have missed two "aunt flo's" so far and i am not looking back.

Re: Wednesday March 10th Here I Come!

My LAVH was on Feb 2nd, and like all of you ladies, I was nervous & anxious...just the fear of the unknown- which is normal!! And I am an RN, so I felt silly to be as anxious as I was about the whole thing!. My main worry was about how the pain would be afterwards. Never having my uterus removed...I knew there would be some type of pain...when I woke up, there was alot of pain in the pelvic area, on the inside, but the recovery room nurses were wonderful, medicating me frequently (through the iv), til the pain was relieved. After that, when I was taken to my room, I just decided to stay 'on top of' the pain, asking for pain meds as the pain started to increase/or return. Pain meds genereally don't work as well if you wait til the pain is at the peak of 'terrible'!!! With that strategy, I had great pain management, & did the same at home . i was sent home with Norco, and also Ibuprofen 600 mg tabs. I would alternate depending on the severity & type of pain, and after about 1 week, I only took the ibuprofen!!
The IV situation usually would be my main worry, but I figured the nurses were there to do their job, & knew what they were doing. The iv is the least of our worries! You all have to remember, the end result is that after it's all over, you will feel soooo much better!! For me, it's been 5 weeks today, and I do feel so much better! Not 100% yet, but I'm coming along. And I go back to work on 3/22, working in a hospital, and will be doing 12 & 16 hour night shifts.. (now THAT makes me nervous at this point!!). LOL

Re: Wednesday March 10th Here I Come!

Hello!

I'm 3 months post op!! I had an expert nurse put my IV in. She got it the first try! I was shaved and had the catheter put in after I was "out". They must have started the knock out med before they wheeled me into surgery. I remember seeing a boot on the left stirrup and thinking my leg would be there, but I wondered where the right one was. That was it. I was out!

The nurses do stay on top of the pain meds. And I read on this website that when you are home to take your pain meds at the times you are supposed to. Don't wait to have to take them. The pain is easier to control before it gets bad. And remember that no matter how good you feel...TAKE IT EASY! That is the hardest part. It was the hardest part for me.

Can't wait to see you on the other side!!! I feel a million times better now and I would do it all over again. I actually looked forward to my surgery....

Love!!!

Ladies I hope it all went well. I am thinking about you both. Only two days post op. You are probably still in hosp. Hugs to you when you get to see this.
