Anyone else getting a Rectocele/Cystocele Repair along with Hyst?
I am going in to get a rectocele/cystocele repair and hysterectomy due to my pelvic floor dropping.
Im nervous. I have had many surgeries in my lifetime for girly issues, but for some reason this one really has me worried.
I am not only worried about how painful sex may be afterwards (due to the tightening of the muscles in both the anterior and posterior walls) but also Im starting to feel emotional about losing my womb.
Dont get me wrong, I am DONE having children. We adopted and though I have been pregnant before, there were no live births. Im even to the point in my life that I really do not want to raise anymore children. But there is still a part of me that grieves at losing any possibility...Weird huh?
Anyway, would love to talk to those who have had the uterus/cervix removed along with the bladder slinging and such!!
Also, how long is the typical stay generally?

Anyone else getting a Rectocele/Cystocele Repair along with Hyst?
I am having the same surgery on Monday. I have some of the same concerns as you. They tell me that I may leave the hospital with a catheter which concerns me. My insurance only lets me stay one day for lap assisted vaginal hysterectomy and repair if there are no complications. Hope that helps.

My mother had a Rectocele/Cystocele (I didnt' realize this, I thought she just had a hysterectomy). She said it felt like razor blades for about the first 4 times of intercourse. It makes your vagina super tight.
Now Im even more worried...EEK!
I have also hear mention of a catheter coming home too. I wonder if that is something that depends more on the amount of bulging the bladder is doing??
I wish you tons of luck on your surgery and will say a prayer for you that day! Please let me know how it goes!

Hey there- I'm going in the day before you for similar surgery. I, too, am going through a range of emotions about it all. I am currently single and the whole sex thing scares the **** out of me as well. Razor blades do not sound pleasant...
I mentioed to pdw on another thread that my doc also mentioned the possibility of coming home with a cath. I am not really thrilled about the idea, but I understand why. I am more nervous about the repairs than I am the TVH. I have to have faith that everything is going to be ok.
You girls take care!!

Anyone else getting a Rectocele/Cystocele Repair along with Hyst?
I am 11 days post-op from a LAVH and a/p repairs. I did not need a catheter to go home. I think it's only if you can't pee in the hospital. The worst thing for me has been my sore bottom - feels like an episiotomy for those who have had babies. Having to wear a pad all the time irritates me, I think. I've been using Tucks pads and spraying Dermoplast and using a spray bottle (couldn't find a peri bottle) to wash off "stuff" after using the bathroom. The hysterectomy itself really hasn't been much of an issue - just a little soreness like menstrual cramps that ibuprofen takes care of - it's my bottom that's a pain!

I have never given birth so I dont know about the whole episiotomy thing, but should we buy dermaplast before surgery or do they send you home with it? Where do you get it?
Im scared of my first BM after surgery. Im a generally constipated person...all the time. Im terrified that pooping will mess something up. Am I just being a ninny or what?

I found out about Dermoplast here on the boards. You can buy it otc at any drugstore - it's in with the first aid supplies.
I drank tons of water, took stool softeners faithfully and even ate chocolate with maltitol for sweetener! It has a laxative like effect.

Believe it or not, the chocolates are not laxatives - they're sugar free and sold with regular candy. I don't eat sugar by choice because I can't control myself! Before surgery I noticed if I had more than 1-2 pieces, it made for really soft stools. So I figured I'd stock up and have some comfort as well as practical results.
I was only in the castle overnight - went home the next afternoon. I probably could have gone home sooner but a nurse gave me pain meds (percocet) before she got me up and out of bed - I told her I wasn't in a lot of pain (felt like menstrual cramps) but she said I needed it. She gave me 2 tablets and I got so nauseated/dizzy and hallucinated! So the dr. told me to sleep for awhile and then try to eat lunch.
I was able to go home shortly after that.

So before the cystocele repair, did you get up at night to pee a lot? Has that changed with the slinging?
I currently have to pee all the time. I get up a lot at night because I feel the need to go but cannot full empty due to the prolapse. Im looking forward and hoping that it will make it so I can get a full nights sleep.
I am also hoping it will curb my instantaneous urge to urinate after "o". That drives me nuts! I can't just lay and cuddle!
