What is a bladder sling? Does everyone need this?

Im 27 and I have my TAH scheduled for April 25th. I was talking to someone who said they had to have a bladder sling because of her hysterectomy . What is this? Does every woman that has a hysterectomy have this? Im scared..I guess because I dont want to become incontienent because of the surgery. I dont even know if this is something I need to ask my doc??

Re: What is a bladder sling? Does everyone need this?

No, not everyone needs a bladder sling. Some women who experience leakage before their hysterectomy discuss it with their doctor so they can take care of it at the same time. Some women may have leakage afterwards, but it can be for many different reasons. I had my hysterectomy 7 years ago this month and I haven't had any problems.

Please discuss your concerns with your doctor. He/she knows you and your health best.
