Hello (from new member) and 2 questions

Hello there. I was so glad to find this group, and also to have it recommended to me by someone who has had a hysterectomy.

My Background:
- I have a history of fibroids, and an enlarged uterus.
- I had an open myomectomy a decade ago, but not surprised the fibroids have grown back and been growing.
- Recently, I bled for over 4 weeks. Thankfully the bleeding stopped, but I've received multiple opinions that I really need a hysterectomy. A lot to process, but I've accepted that I have to do this.

So, my 2 questions are:
1) What are thoughts on how soon I'd be able to work from home on a computer. I think based on what I've read, expect nothing for the first two weeks but potentially part time after that?

2) Background: My surgery has not been scheduled, but the surgical coordinator for my current ob/gyn will call when they have a September schedule. I have to be honest that I don't really like this ob/gyn in terms of the level of information provided, and the 'bedside manner'. I've googled reviews and I don't have much reason to believe that they couldn't do the surgery (I did see one review that talked about a complication, but I also saw another review that claimed they were amazing.) I've read multiple reports that also complain about the bedside manner, so I know it's not just me. Outside of bedside manner, I also feel like I'm given so little information. As an example, I had a 2-minute conversation that told me I needed a hysterectomy and there was almost an impatience that I didn't agree right then and there. Even now that I've agreed to it, I've had to be the one to ask questions like what type, what the recovery period would be, etc. In all honesty, I was looking to change ob/gyns and had even made an appointment with a new one, but then the bleeding sent me to my existing ob/gyn who eventually did the D&C. There's another doctor I've seen in the past about the fibroids, who I would prefer to do the surgery. I have made an appointment with that doctor but when I called in July I couldn't get an appointment til mid-September. So, even if the other doctor agrees to do it, I have no clue what their surgical schedule will be like because the other doctor is so highly-sought after in this area (and so far have not been able to get a guess by his appointment scheduling staff).
Question: So my question is if the excessive bleeding stays away, should I just go with my current doctor or should I wait to go with someone I'm more comfortable with, keeping in mind that surgeries in the Fall are uncertain due to Covid?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Hello (from new member) and 2 questions

We're pleased you joined and hope you will find it helpful to be a part of this amazing community of women.

You can use the Pre-Op message board as the place to start a new thread, as you did here, to ask for input from pre- and post-op members. Information to help on this journey can be found in the Pre-Op Page and Checkpoints. Additional help can be found by browsing in the Hints From Members, Our “Must Have” List Preparing for Hysterectomy and Our Hysterectomy Stories resources.

It's really important to have a good relationship with the doctor who will be doing your surgery, both before and after. If you are already having problems getting the input you need and deserve from your doctor now, it likely isn't going to be any better after the surgery when a whole new set of questions and concerns can come up. Getting a second opinion is something we always strongly urge on this site, and even have a video on that topic: Give Me a Second.

We look forward to sharing with you and send all best wishes!
