Need help from women w/MS

Hi,
I have to have an SAH on 3/1. I can't walk afterward, due to the MS. I use a scooter at home. Does anyone have any ideas as far as what I can do instead of walk? I hope someone gives me a few ideas. Also, was the surgery really hard on you? I'm expecting the worse. Can any of you ladies tell me if it took you longer to recover?
Thanx

I personally dont have MS but I have a friend who is diabetic and had to have heart surgery. She is also a double amputee. Here doctor said that any kind of movement was excersise. For her it was difficult to get into her chair because of here incision. But her doctor ok'd for her to lift light weights. 2lbs I think. Dont do this without checking first. But she had a tough time. But she made it.
I would call your local home nurse agency and see what they can do for you.

HI Suez...
Your questions would be best answered by your own neurologist (or whoever might be taking care of your MS). It would also be a good idea to see if your surgeon could correspond with your MS Dr just to make sure everyone is on the same wavelength.
stay well

Need help from women w/MS

Hi

My mother in law has MS and is now mostly wheelchaired. She goes for hydrotherapy once a week which she finds really beneficial.

She also has a pysiotherapist visit once per month to review exercise program. Her muscles are very weak and underused so she is trying to use them through exercise. The exercises are done daily in the chair or on the bed. Some she can do herself but others need assistance of husband or whoever is willing. Mostly involve gentle movement by simply bending at joints and straightening out again. Ten minutes in morning, ten minutes in afternoon, ten minutes in evening.

Hope this helps.

regards
ktee
