TAH on Dec 6 and scared....

I just found out that I am scheduled for a TAH on Dec 6 and I am very scared.. I am 33 with no children.. I am physically ready, but I am nowhere near emotionally ready.. I currently have adenomyosis with fibroids. I know that the surgery will help with the pain.. I don't think I will know what to do with that.. but the thought of no children terrifys me.. will anyone want a 33 y/o who cant have kids??? That is one of the questions running through my mind.. What can I expect from the recovery.. Is it worse than the pain I feel now??? I know it will be different.. If anyone has any advice for me.. on anything.. dealing with the decision or the recovery I would greatly appreciate it.. Thank you very much....

TAH on Dec 6 and scared....

Jennifer, I'm sure you have given this a lot of thought and my prayers are with you. My surgery is also scheduled on December 6th and I know we will feel so much better when it is over.

Just remember, you have so much more to offer someone than a uterus. What counts is what is in your heart. God Bless.

Jennifer,

My heart goes out to you right now and I wish I could give you a hug! I know what you are going through and the fears that you are facing. I'm 34 and do not have any children either. I thought my husband would want to leave me when he found out that I would never be able to give him a biological child but guess what he said...he said that he'd rather spend our lives together with me completely healthy and never have children than to spend our lives not being able to do anything together because of the pain I was in. If someone wants to be with you, not being able to have children should not be a deal breaker. There are other options to becoming parents when you are ready and your health is more important. Like the other post says...you are so much more than a uterus! Please feel free to PM or e-mail me if you'd like to talk. I'll always be happy to listen!

TAH on Dec 6 and scared....

Jennifer in my profession, I deal one on one with the public everyday and if there's one thing I've learned most, the men that walk thru my door are looking for just THAT! A women with no children. I can't even tell you how many times I've heard it. They actually tell me how hard of time they have finding a women without. Go figure! I don't think this will be a downfall for you in the dating department.

I am 4 weeks post op from TAH. I won't lie and tell you that it was not painful, but it is different than the pain you are feeling now. It's a better pain because it will go away with time. After 4 weeks I feel better than I have felt in 11 years. Your stomach is going to be sensitive, which I didn't think to expect, and you may have some discomfort after urination. Don't worry!!! I was so scared the night before my surgery. Just relax as much as you can, drink plenty of water a couple days before your surgery, and do exactly as the dr. tells you.

Good luck!!! I will be thinking about you.
