Recovery Questions -- LAVH for 12/13

Hi everyone...I'm scheduled for LAVH 12/13. Please share your LAVH recovery experiences...It's hard to tell from the articles I've read which experiences are more typical for which procedures. I'm 48, never had kids, work full time at a demanding but not physical job, and in pretty good shape. Also planning to keep ovaries.

Recovery Questions -- LAVH for 12/13

I had LAVH on 11/30. I was surprised at how good I felt right afterward. I expected to be in more pain. I had to change beds 3 times because they couldn't find a bed that worked right. It was not painful at all to change beds. When I arrived home on the 3rd of Dec. I took my pain pill once and haven't taken one since. I an keeping them close just in case though. LOL I did take the prescription strengh Ibuprofen a little longer and sometimes just because my fever was elevated a little. Granted I am only 4 days out, but so far so good. I kept one ovary, he took one because it was inflamed and I had been having pain on that side.

Recovery Questions -- LAVH for 12/13

Hi there! I had a LAVH+BSO at 49, and never had any kids either. I had surgery in the am and went home the next day at about 2 pm. The surgery was long (over 3.5 hours) due to a very large uterus with fibroids. Recovery has gone well. I didn't have much pain at all (when I got home extra strength Tylenol was enough), and have not had any complications. I went back to work 1/2 days at 7 weeks and full time at 8 weeks (I teach at a university). The fatigue is the hardest part to get over, but now I'm feeling pretty well. Not taking HRT, so I do get night sweats and can't sleep through the night (wake up 3 to 6 times).

I still get tired at the end of the week, and find that if I'm really tired I'm more likely to feel teary and emotional.

I've also had the swelly belly, which has improved, but has not gone completely away yet. I am back in my normal clothes, and was from about 10 weeks. Prior to that I wore stretch pants to work, and a blazer to hide my tummy!

All in all, it was not as bad an experience as I had expected. Good luck!

Thanks for sharing. In your mind you know everyone is different, but hearing from others helps the anxious anticipation.

You'll do fine! This web site is so great to get you prepared for what to expect. That to me was the worst part, not knowing what to expect (I didn't find HysterSisters till after my surgery!)
