no period in 4 wks, first time in 2 yrs?????

I have been on the pill for the last 3 months without going off at all. This was to control my periods and anemia. My Doc asked me to go off 6 weeks prior to surgery. After doing that I had a VERY bad period that lasted 14 days. I have not had a hint of a period for the last 4 weeks. Plenty of cramps though. Now, my surgery is to take place on 11-08-04, 1 week. Am I still doing the right thing to have my hysterescomy? I have the feeling that this is a temporary thing that has been caused by being on the pill for so long. I'm afraid that the minute I cancel my surgery, my periods will return and be worse than ever. I know that I have an enlarged uterus, and several good size fibroids. My gut feeling is to go ahead with the surgery, but I still have doubt in my mind whether or not to cancel it. If I cancel it, it will take another 3 months to re-schedule it. Any opinions, or similar experiences will very much be appreciated! Thanks Sisters!!!

It is quite possible that your having been on the pill has turned your system a bit topsy turvy - and you would probably need time to get back into a regular cycle.

it is also possible that you are heading into menopause

fibroids may shrink when we hit menopause, (not guaranteed , but it is common, because they feed on estrogen, and in menopause we produce less food for them).

It may well be worth talking to your dr again and re-evaluating the situation - or perhaps you want to see a completely new dr and get a different opinion? that is a good idea. -- we even suggest seeing 3 drs if you can manage it.

Surgery can always be re-scheduled --- but it cannot be undone.
If you really aren't sure, then maybe you want to put it off.

I know it isn't easy to make this decision. - best wishes to you.
