I had pre-op appointments at the same hospital exactly one year apart, and they were totally different.
For my hyst, all I had was a blood draw, about a million different people asking me the same medical questions over and over again (any allergies? What meds are you on? Allergic to latex? Do you have a cold? Oh, and are you allergic to anything?
You get the idea...) . I consulted with both surgeons (plastic and gyn surgeon) and they took pictures of my tummy because I was having a panniculectomy to remove some fat and skin.
Then I pre-registered for the
and asked for a private room -- $35 extra, by the way -- worth EVERY penny IMHO.
For my hematoma surgery a year later (same hospital, as I said before), I had the blood draw, but I also had a lengthy physical exam -- reflexes, ears, eyes, throat -- the whole ball of wax, a long consultation with an anesthesiologist, only ONE person asking me every medical question known to man (hey, are you allergic to anything?
), and then I was offered a movie to watch (I declined) and I pre-registered at the hospital. The hyst pre-op took about 45 minutes, the one for the second surgery was about 3 hours.
Let us know how your appointment goes, OK? And try not to worry -- pre-op appointments are pretty routine most of the time.
