Has anyone on Blood Thinners had a hysterectomy?

Hi,

I know I am having a hysterectomy within the next 2 weeks or so, but no date has been set yet. I am terrified. The whole reason for the surgery is bleeding from Warfarin. It causes unexplained and unstoppable hemorrhagic vaginal bleeding, but I can't stop taking it, and am on it for life due to previous DVT & multiple PE's. So I was wondering if anyone has had a hysterectomy while on blood thinners. & If so, how long did they keep you in the hospital, and did they reintroduce the blood thinners post op while still in the hospital? I am scared that I am gonna go through all of this for nothing, and somehow, even without a uterus, I will bleed.

Re: Has anyone on Blood Thinners had a hysterectomy?

So glad you found us!

I can understand your concern given your medical history and need for blood thinners. I have included an article below that may help but the key is to discuss this with your surgeon so you have all the details you need about treatment and length of hospital stay. Good luck! We'll be here to support you through this journey!
