Re: nervous and irritated about my hysterectomy

I had a TAH the last Monday and I can honestly say the worrying and dread was awful. Once i became proactive, read the tips on this site, prepared some meals to freeze and got friends lined up to help, I came to a peaceful acceptance that this surgery was coming and I might as well deal with it

The surgery went very well. No complications and I pushed myself to walk to the door of the hospital room back and forth then in the halls-listening to my body so I didn't over do it. I'm recovering very well, I think.

Take time to process this, give yourself time to adjust, then prepare and accept. It will be ok and soon you will be saying you are glad it's over!

Re: nervous and irritated about my hysterectomy

I didn't think this surgery was that big a deal at first. As time passed, I realized how big a deal it was. I couldn't sleep without a pill. I just concentrated on making sure everything was prepared for me when I got home. Bought a recliner, bought a bin for beside my bed for recovery, bought a small fridge for the bedroom, got my husband to put the tv in the bedroom. I had my suitcase packed for a month and lists of what else needed to go in, what I needed when I came home, etc. Froze lots of meals, cleaned, did tons of laundry. Just tried to get everything prepared. I also went out for a nice meal with my family the night before.

Re: nervous and irritated about my hysterectomy

I'm six weeks post op and what helped me was preparing and reading the posts on here. I had lots of fibroids and pain and put off surgery for 10 years!
So glad I had it done.
Before surgery I made lists and prepped my recovery area. I made sure I had chocolate for the nurses, lip balm, comfy jammies, robe, slippers...all that everyone recommended that I felt would work for me. And it did. I'm so glad I had all that advice from the sisters on here!
As for work, everyone got on fine without me even though I was sure they never would
Ask your doctor all your questions at your pre-op, even if it sounds dumb. Mine was glad I had a list!
Ask for a photo of what is removed, this was huge in helping me know I absolutely did the right thing.
It was hard for me to ask for help, but let everyone treat you like a princess...I kind of miss it now lol.
You will get through it fine and be right on here with the rest of us discussing our swelly bellies and the joys of not bleeding! Best of luck to you.

nervous and irritated about my hysterectomy

I had my surgery 10 days ago and I'm so glad it is behind me. The doctors and nurses were wonderful. They will take good care of you. Stay busy and don't be scared. It will all work out. Think about not having the periods and pain you have been dealing with. Be strong and good luck.
QUOTE=PERCYBEAR;4359549]Three weeks from today my surgery will be completed. I am a nervous wreck. I have a fibroid in my uterus. The last year year my periods have become much heavier with bad pain and clots. The past few months I have bled more than I have not. I have only had surgery when I was very young. I have not had to be in the hospital since then. I am so nervous and irritable. Is this normal? Any words of wisdom to get me through this?[/quote]
