Pain at 6wks

HI Ladies, I have a question about these zingers. at 5wks I got this pain on the right end of my incision it was there for about a day and then it went away.and then this week I got it again I went for my 6wk check up this week and asked my doc about it and he said it was very common for women that have had a TAH to have these pains from time to time as the nerves are heeling. so I thought ok it will pass. well I have had this pain for 3 days now it has not let up at all in fact it has gotten worse. I have even had to take pain meds a few times for it. it just feels like my skin is ripping open and it has a burning feeling to. my incision is completly healed so I know it is not an infection. and I have read other posts hear about it but in those posts the ladies have said that the pain comes and goes. well mine does'nt go away. it eases up when I lay down but as soon as I get up bamm. and sometimes when I walk around it hits me so hard that it stops me right in my tracks. so my question is if there are any other ladies hear that got this pain from the nerves growing back and had it stick around for a while instead of having it come and go. like I said my doc said it is just the nerves growing back together. but I am not so sure. this is the most pain I have had since I came home from Hospital. Thanks for any advice, Cathy

Hi Cathy!,

I'm nine weeks out and still occasionally get a zinger- but I don't think they should be constant. I think you should call your Doc's office and explain what's happening.

Do you have any other signs of infection? Fever etc? I know you said your incision is healed but I think it's possible to still have an infection in the inner layers and have the outside seem okay.

But, since you say it is alleviated when you lay down it sounds like it might be pressure related -could you have overdone it and pulled a muscle or something?
Or it may simply be that your nerves are still regrouping. I think your Doc could best advise you.
You might ask about whether you could use a heat or ice pack to bring some mechanical- non-drug type relief.

Does an ice pack or heating pad help?

That might be from overdoing/swelly belly.

Is there any kind of lump or heat under the area that hurts? What happens if you gently press against the painful area with your flat hand, like giving yourself support there? Does that make a difference one way or another?

If so, you may need an in-person exam to rule out hematoma or hernia.

Pain at 6wks

I am 14 wks out, and have the zingers quite frequently...but, I don't really consider them *painful*, just rather annoying. If it were me, I would talk to my dr again about it. Any type of pain that is not relieved with rest could possibly be a problem. I hope you feel better soon. Let us know how you are doing. Take care!

Pain at 6wks

HI Ladies, thanks for the advice and yes I have tried an ice pack and it just makes it hurt more.and it hurts when I cough, sneeze or even laugh. and if I touch the belly area right above the pain spot that is a little sore too not painful but sore.and yes it does ease up a little bit if I walk around with my hand on the painfull spot. but I have to go back to work next Wed and I can't go around holding my belly all day. I think I am going to see how I do over the weekend and if it is not any better I will be calling the doc to talk about this again.and for the sister that mentioned a hemotoma is there any way that I would know if that was the problem . are there any symptoms to look out for. and if it one of those would I need another surgery to fix it?I hope not my hyst was my 6th surgery. the third time I have been cut on my bikini line and I don't remember any pain like this so late in recovery. with the other two sugerys like that I was ready to go back to work by now. and this time with this pain I just don't see how I can work if it hurt to even walk sometimes. I just don't know what to do. thanks again, Cathy
