Please be assured that docs know what that are doing and are ready to do what needs to be done. In a very short time you will be on here asking questions and offering encouragement to others. In one month you won't believe how far you've come.

Hospital stays are determined by type of surgery, doctor and by any complications and maybe type of insurance, sadly. I ended up staying 2 extra days because I needed blood. If u are having abdominal surgery, that could be 3 days. Laprascopic is usually a day. The hospital usually will keep u until u poop or pass gas and appear able to walk and have no effects from anesthesia.

I didn't want to stay, but GoD knew best. It turned out I needed it.

I understand wanting to stay, but usually people don't get much rest or peace in the hospital because they are coming in the room non-stop, machines are beeping, some patients may yell, etc, and it's quite bright there.

Ultimately, It will work out, believe me!

Best wishes!

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Apr 15, 2018

Having a full abdominal hysterectomy on Wednesday (your Thursday if you are in US...I am in New Zealand). They will be leaving my left ovary. Have a 6cm plus complex cyst on right ovary that specialist is concerned about as well as endometriosis, suspected fibroids and scarring and adhesions from 3 previous c sections including an internal classical incision. Strong family history of both ENDO and PCOS. Surgery has been moved twice since I was diagnosed with acute iron deficient anemia and the cyst, 6 weeks ago by bloods and ultrasound. She thinks the cyst has been there for a long time which is interesting as I've had strong symptoms of peri menopause without the menopause such as hair loss, weight gain etc for the last 6 years but no one has been able to confirm why. The 2nd time the specialist doing it didn't appear at the hospital but worked in my favour as am now back with the original female gyne that I consulted with and was booked in for the first time, so works out great. Is nice to know I am not going this alone although I wish none of us had to go through it in the first place. Looking forward to hopefully having a new lease on life after so many years of issues. Bring on better days!

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Apr 15, 2018

Finally getting my Robotic/laparoscopic hysterectomy on Friday. 3 ER visits in the last 6 months with severe labor type pains. Failed ablation. I am so done with my insides. They are being evicted. I do find myself nervous. I need a fast recovery as I can't really afford to take time off work. Am I being unrealistic in praying to go back to work in 2 weeks? Sad to see my baby making factory go even though I have had the Essure for 13 years. I would never have more kids but the fact that all those parts of me will be permanently GONE, makes my heart ache a little. But the release from pain will be worth it right? Hope so!

Jennsgold!

I hate to say it, but yes I think 2 weeks back to work is probably being a bit optimistic. I was able to do a lot of work from my couch though, starting at about 5 days post op. Before that, the brain fog and fatigue was just too much. At 2 weeks out, I was definitely able to work part time from home. But being back at work was quite difficult. I did go sit in a meeting around week 3 but that wasn’t my best decision. Remember, once they see you back at work, many people will automatically assume you’re ok and ready to be back.

At two weeks, I couldn’t comfortably or safely drive to get there as I was still in pain after driving (I could drive, but driving caused me major pain and swelling in my stomach). Sitting upright was also incredibly uncomfortable for a long time - and there’s no way to work at a computer or sit in a meeting without sitting. I’m not sure what you do, but if you can do part of it from home or you can go back at extremely reduced hours, I would absolutely encourage you to do this but only once you truly feel ready and your doctor agrees. Remember, you only get one chance to heal right.

And yes, even with some minor complications, I would say that my hysterectomy was totally worth it. I was in the same place in life as you - done having kids but it still being bittersweet that I would never have the option to have more. I still don’t regret it. And being without the pain made it all worth it.

Hugs,
See you on the other side!

Thanks! I hope he can do it - it would be a bummer to be only the second one that didn’t work out of 800! My fingers are crossed and I am saying a prayer!! I appreciate the encouragement and I am glad yours went well!

Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Apr 15, 2018

Hello ladies! Congratulations on making it this far!

This can be a very nerve racking time, but also a time of excitement. Many of you have suffered through pain for years and are ready to say goodbye to all that agony. The nerves you are feeling are completely normal, but ry to relax and focus on how much better you’ll feel in a couple months!

The support you’ll find in the post-hysterectomy forum and especially your recovery thread is invaluable. I didn’t find this site until 2 weeks post op and was incredibly relieved to find out I wasn’t the only who was disappointed that I was still quite sore and not father along in my recovery. I had researched on sites like WebMd and Mayo and they all seemed to imply that I would feel mostly back to normal 1-2 weeks after my laparoscopic hysterectomy. There seems to be misconception that a laparoscopic hysterectomy is relatively easy compared to an abdominal surgery. While abdominal surgery is more extensive, laparoscopic surgery is still major surgery and has many of the same restrictions as abdominal.

I also had no idea that I now had a Vaginal Cuff or what that meant in terms of my recovery. My surgeon did tell me about it, but it was one of those things I didn’t really understand until I saw women talking about on here. If you’re having your cervix removed, I highly recommend you read the above article

In retrospect, the surgery was harder than anticipated, but only because I wasn’t truly prepared. You ladies are already a step ahead of many women because you have found Hystersisters

I wish all of you an uneventful surgery and a smooth recovery!!
