choice to make

ok i have been given the choice of lavh, or tah. My dr. said she would try a lava if i wanted, but i have never had a vaginal birth only 2 c-sections,and she said my cervix is also small.so i may go in thinking a lavh only to wake with a tah same cut as my c-section.so what would you ladies suggest? I didnt have any trouble with c sections but i know this is nothing like a c section. Also i guess im scared of more pain in the vagina area and stitches"down there" since i have never had any, only abdominal ones.any advise would be helpful. Im leaning towards tah because i have that scar already and dont want un do pain in my..well you know.

I only had vaginal births so I have no idea about C sections but any surgery can turn into a tah depending on what they find in there. If you are worried that will be the case in the end and you can choose that and be fine with it go for it. Has your Dr given you any indication on which she would rather do or which would have the better outcome?

she said she will always offer less invasive as long as going into it, the patient presents well for a lavh.
i guess im wondering if the internal healing is the same? I have read about and watched videos on both. the vaginal way looks worse to me,more stiches and stuff.
she said she would do which ever i want,just know going in it may be abdominal when all is said and done. out come for both would be the same, she just thought i may not want to be opened up again. now the thought of making the wrong choice scares me. I guess cause like i said i only have one way to compere too. and maybe im confused as to how the vaginal cuff is done after ,will the out come be the same? vaginal or abdominal ?

I still have my cervix so hopefully someone that has the cuff can answer up on how they do that. I'm always for less invasive and quicker recovery and you can usually get a really good indication from the Dr on which would be better. If she said you present well for the lavh she must think she can do it that way. My Dr said I presented well for the DaVinci, in the end it took 4 hrs and I was stunned when I came out of all the meds and realized she hadn't done the bikini cut, I'm sure it would have been a lot easier for her, but she commited to the DaVinci and she finished it that way. Maybe post another topic about vaginal cuffs and see what people say, or I think you can search for it.

I haven't been given a choice by my specialist. She said that as I have had 2 csections there would be too much scar tissue to attempt anything other than a tah. Has she let you know how successful she thinks it will be trying a lavh. I'm kinda glad that I don't have to make a decision on this - not that this helps you tho :-)

Ok, let's see if I can help you out some. I also had a c-section, then my hysterectomy was via LAVH. As for the stitches, I've had no trouble at all with them. Having had a c section, I did not know that my who-ha would be all swollen & just totally not normal (after the surgery). I have healed great & had no trouble what so ever. ( I even broke the #1 rule & all still works quite well). If your doctor can do the LAVH I strongly recommend it. The healing time is wonderful!!! 8 days after mine I was driving, grocery shopping (w/ my sons help). I have been quite active through out my healing time. There's no way I could have healed as quickly as i have with the TAH.
For me, the vaginal cuff has given me no problems. (remember I goofed way before my 6 week mark). So far, I have noticed no major changes. My biggest thing, no more back pain & lower abdominal pain. I suggest you keep asking questions. Feel free to send me messages if you want. There are lots & lots of ladies on here who have been through the very same thing & are very willing to share their experiences with you.
My opinion, LAVH is the way to go. But that's just my opinion & I'm not a doctor! Best of wishes to you!!

A quick question, are you able to keep your cervix? If so, that might be what determines which method your doctor uses. Keep asking lots of questions on here!!!!!!!

I had a DvH with BSO and did not keep anything.. I would probably go for less invasive. I know for me that the doc wasn't sure he would be able to do DaVinci but he was. The healing for me is very,very,very long. I am now at almost two years and still healing. Everyone is different but I did want to say that not everyone with a less invasive surgery is running around at two weeks able to do everything.

I had 3 c-sections (1 emergency they cut me all up for) and lots of scar tissue/adhesions. My doc did my hysterectomy via the Da Vinci.....much quicker recovery compared to my c-sections. Doc took his time (3 + hours) to remove all of the adhesions and scar tissue.

3 small incisions with a total of 7 stitches. 17 days post op I am feeling great. Almost normal!

Just wanted to point out there are options out there for those of us who have had c-sections besides tah.

ok,so it was not so good feeling ,or looking at first, but now it works and looks the same? ,,thats what i needed to hear. funny how that matters..lol but hey what can i say. you broke the rule , i know im going to do the same thing..or should i say i hope im able to brake the rule and i want my parts to work and act right...
