I had to borrow a wheelchair from the clinic.

My surgery was laparoscopic and minimally invasive, so I'm guessing if somebody gets cut wide open that would prevent driving for a decent amount of time. Good luck on getting back behind the wheel!
So far I have had nowhere to go but my husband wants me to come with him to run errands occasionally. Nice to someone from the PNW here. I’m on the Eastside in Sammamish.

Hi Everybody and welcome McKenzie. (I feel like I’m your twin here cause I had the first surgery of the day on Jan 4, same surgery, same diagnosis and thank dog all the cancer is gone and had not spread! I was discharged at 5pm and was grateful that my SO and I had borrowed a wheelchair to get inside to our apartment. I’m 53. My SO found this site while I was in surgery. I’ve since told my oncology nurse and doctor about it. Neither of the knew of it.)

I can relate to so many experiences, especially doing something and then realizing you overdid it. Walking for 15 minutes 4 times a day is SO much better than one long walk. It’s so strange cause I’m a cyclist and an Orange Theory Fitness junkie too and now I just lounge.

I’ve been the passenger in the car a lot and don’t mind at all. I recline the seat WAY back and we just drive short 15 minute trips to do little things and then get back in the car to the next little trip.

Re yoga. I’m a yogi and so is my surgeon. She specificity said not to do yoga for 6 weeks. It’s very strenuous on the core. Truth be told the idea of stretching out or twisting my right side strikes fear in me right now anyway, but I am thankful for my ability to hold a bridge pose easily because that has been a great help getting in and out of bed and turning in bed.

Hugs to you all,
Emma

2+ weeks out, and I'm healing well. More spotting than before in the last few days, and my abdomen is hurting around the incision. It used to only hurt when I twisted my spine; now it seems to hurt almost constantly around the bigger incision above my belly button. Anyone else having a similar experience?

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 04-Jan 10,2021

biscuit,

Yes some sisters have had some pain in their incisions. So keep a close eye on it, make sure it doesn’t get red, raised or hot, or that there is no odor. Also you might want to take your temperature and pay attention that you don’t get one. These are good cautions to take and just remember that many have pain in one incision or area of a longer incision. You don’t mention what type of Hyst you had. Do you have one long incision or several small ones? If you are uneasy about it do give your Dr a call tomorrow and see what they say. Please keep us in the loop and I will be thinking of you.

Hugs,
Anndy

Thanks, Anndy!

Mine was laparoscopic—everything but the ovaries. The large incision is above the belly button, plus the four small ones.

Will keep an eye on it. The doctor saw me for a 2 week check up on Wednesday, and said that everything looked good.

Biscuit,

Since it was the larger one, it might have been the one that had more manipulation during the surgery which might be why you are having more pain there. This could cause it to be harder to heal. I have had several sister report there Drs saying something similar to this.

Hugs,
Anndy

Re: Sex

My doc said 12 before "putting anything inside your vagina." Not sure what all he thinks I wanna keep in there, but...I guess 12 weeks is quite conservative. I re-checked my discharge paperwork to confirm that it says 12 weeks before any sex. That's the longest restriction, followed by bathing, which is 8 weeks.

I'm sorry you're experiencing so much pain (insert sad emoji)! I had the same surgery, but a lot more itching than pain. Some of the incisions seem to be healing bumpy and weird, though. Is that normal, I wonder?

Wyldroses - Hello, neighbor! Nice to meet you! Where did you have your surgery, if you don't mind me asking? (You could also tell me in a pm). We might have been at the same place!

Duchess Emma - Twinsies! It's nice to hear that you started as early as I did and still got kept at the hospital until 5:00. I was released around 7-ish, but I was expecting to go home a whole lot earlier. I thought the lengthy stay was because I was so troublesome and bad at recovering (which I was), so it's good to know that recovered more normally than I thought I had.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 04-Jan 10,2021

Hi everyone!

I just saw my doctor and she is happy with how the main incision is healing now (nearly all closed). She has put me on a second course of antibiotics just as a precaution too. I am so, so, so relieved! Too much overthinking really.

I also can’t wait until I can sleep on my tummy again - I’ve been sleeping on my back for 3 weeks and it’s just not the same.
