Nervous about hysterectomy 1/28 to remove Essure
Hello,
I am 48 and having a Hysterectomy to remove my Essure implants. I have had them since 2008 and they are made of nickel, which I am allergic to. I've suffered with pain, cramping, and bloating for more than 10 years. I've been involved in a class action lawsuit against Bayer for years and it finally settled, so I can have my implants removed. Unfortunately, they have to remove both my uterus and my tubes. I'm not happy, I'm in total denial and I'm super honkerblonked off at my ex-husband because he was too afraid to get a vasectomy back then, so my doctor convinced me that Essure was the right way to go for birth control.
Just needed to vent...and try to find out what I will need on hand before surgery, I've heard that gas is the worst part of the recovery.

Nervous about hysterectomy 1/28 to remove Essure
 and
In sorry I cant speak to everything else you've gone through, but perhaps I can help with your concerns about the gas. My top picks for items to have on hand for that include a good pair of walking shoes, peppermint tea, fennel or coriander seeds, and Gas-X. Constipation can cause gas to become trapped in your colon, so in addition to the above, I'd like to recommend a few items to get things moving; that includes an easy-open water bottle, frozen blueberries, whole grain cereal like oatmeal or All Bran, magnesium-rich dark chocolate and pumpkin seeds, ground flaxseeds, a psyllium based product like Metamucil, and a Squatty Potty or small footstool to elevate your feet while you're on the throne, which can help by properly aligning your rectum so the poop can pass through more smoothly. Other suggested items to have on hand include a freezer and pantry filled with easy to prepare meals and snacks, a recovery spot arranged with pillows and blankets, loose fitting clothes, extension cords for plugging in your electronics, and a grabber for picking up small objects off the floor. Best wishes for moving forward from what happened, and for a successful surgery and a smooth recovery!
