LSH with bowel prep
I'm scheduled for tomorrow along with many other princesses, so the subject of bowel prep has come up since today is the day for it! Some of us going in tomorrow have to do it, some don't. I'm curious about the circumstances but it looks like it's mostly doctor preference.
I have to do bowel prep and I am scheduled for LSH.
What about you? What kind of surgery are you having and do/did you have to do bowel prep?

LSH with bowel prep
I did not have to do bowel prep. My total lap was on the 20th. I ate light the day before and ate a lot of dried apricots to keep things moving and had no trouble. I had a BM this morning, less than 48 hours after my surgery, so I'm a happy camper.
I feel great, good luck for your procedure and I hope everything goes well for you!!

Glad to hear you are doing great after only 48 hours! I'm aggravated about having to do the bowel prep because I don't understand why some do and some don't. Still, the main thing is this will all be behind me after tomorrow!

LSH with bowel prep
For my LSH I also had to do a massive bowel prep and although it seems annoying at the time, I honestly think it's helped make my recovery easier since I am still having some loose bm's post op which is so much easier than the constipated BM's that usually occur for me post-op. Also a mainly liquid diet post op has helped me too for the first couple of days post-op. Good luck with your prep and your surgery. I hope you have a recovery as easy as mine has been thus far!
Edit: I forgot to add that when I asked my Gyn about the bowel prep for having a LSH, he said he feels more comfortable knowing that the patient's intestines are clear since there is always a chance of nicking them until they have a clear view with the laprascope. And gives more room with them not being full for doing the actual procedure, but I am sure as with everything each doctor has a different preference.

Thanks for the response. It is very encouraging to hear how well you are doing. It does make sense that a bowel prep makes more room for the laparoscopic equipment.

LSH with bowel prep
Anytime! Best of luck tomorrow and I will see you on the other side!! What kind of bowel prep have they ordered for you? I had to drink the liquid phosphosoda, take 4 Bisacodyl tabs and an hour before use a Bisacodyl suppository... Never thought I could be so empty!! LOL!! But all that plus lots of water wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be! Hopefully yours will be as easy going as mine was!

LSH with bowel prep
I think it depends on the DR. I didn't have to do anything, but with my nerves being so bad I probably wouldn't need a bowel prep. One reason could be that if he nicks your bowel it won't be full poo and leak into your abdomen. Just a thought and it may be the type of procedure too.

LSH with bowel prep
I had a LAVH on the 9th & yep, I had to do the dread enema. I worried all day about it & when I finally did it, to my surprise it was not a big deal.
