Has anyone had any experience with using a tummy pillow?
I read somewhere on this website that a tummy pillow works well and they suggested taking it to the hospital. Has anyone had any experience with using a tummy pillow?

Re: Has anyone had any experience with using a tummy pillow?
I didn't find this site until a month after my surgery and so knew nothing about "tummy pillows"! I wanted to protect myself from my dogs and so thought a pillow would be the logical solution and it certainly was. I found it generally comforting anyway and started using it in the car, too, under the seatbelt. It was never far away!
I'm sending positive thoughts for your surgery and recovery!

Re: Has anyone had any experience with using a tummy pillow?
Yes, I used one. I bought a travel pillow before surgery and took it to the hospital with me. It helps to hold it over your tummy when you need to cough, sneeze or even clear your throat, also when you get home. It does provide protection from your pets jumping up on you. You should use it when you ride or drive. Just put it between your tummy and seatbelt.
You will need it for the ride home from the hospital.

I swear by using one! I am an asthmatic who coughs a lot in the morning, so between my usual coughing and clearing out my lungs from anesthesia, my pillow was my best friend.
As mentioned above, take it with you in the car too, not just for the seat belt, but also for bumpy roads.

Wouldn't be without mine! Daughter bought me a pee wee pillow pet - red dragon - and I love it. It was quite a hit with the nurses. In addition to being cute and putting a smile on my face, it has protected my tummy from cat paws, seat belts, bumpy roads and has been used frequently when I cough or sneeze. It's the perfect size.

Re: Has anyone had any experience with using a tummy pillow?
I'm still learning how to use this site so I am not sure if I am responding the correct way, but I want to thank my Sisters for the feedback and I am definitely taking a tummy pillow to the castle with me.

I bought a humorous pillow. It's in terrible taste. I hope the nurses laugh.

Re: Has anyone had any experience with using a tummy pillow?
I love this site and am so happy to be able to share in this experience with others who are or have gone through it as well. Not many of my friends can relate so it's hard to have a conversation and feel like they "get it". Any way this is the first I have heard of a tummy pillow so forgive me but what exactly is it? I know what the baby/mini pillow pets are that some sisters have referenced but I don't "get" how having one can help with caughing or sneezing? It does make sense with the seatbelt though. Do you hold the pillow tightly on your abdomen?

Re: Has anyone had any experience with using a tummy pillow?
yes, your abdomen will be very sore,so if you have to cough or sneeze, even laugh, having a pillow to put pressure on your belly helps with the pain a bit, plus they are cute and cuddly
I am in pain this morning 4 days post op so,i took 1 motrin and 1/2 percoset, they best thing I can tell you is to stay on top of the pain, dont let it get the bext of you, they gave you the meds for a reason...
good luck (((((((((hugs))))))))))))
