Hysterectomy Scheduled 9/7

Hi Everyone,
My hysterectomy is scheduled for September 7th.
I am quite nervous, but I know it is what I need to do.
I have had 4 bouts of PMB since going though menopause.
I just turned 58, and it is now impossible to get a biopsy because two fibroids are blocking the opening of my cervix.
I have several fibroids, and two of them are about 8cm.
Attempted hysteroscopy just ended up with a perforated uterus.
Gyn. onc. says that my risk if endometrial cancer is very low, but there is still a risk, since we couldn't get a biopsy.
He offered to try to stop the spotting by adjusting my hormones, but I think surgery is the correct decision.
I will be having a laparoscopic total hysterectomy.
Words of support and prayers are always welcome.
Thanks!

Re: Hysterectomy Scheduled

Hi kellhong -

I know it is hard to have a hysterectomy - it is such an overwhelming experience. I did not want my surgery, but it was the best solution given my situation.

Just know that you are not alone in any of this. Many women before you have had the same surgery. We will be by your side throughout this process.

Re: Hysterectomy Scheduled

Between the fibroids and the spotting, I'd say a hysterectomy is the way to go. My own PMB *did* turn out to be due to endometrial cancer, but in many cases a hysterectomy is the only treatment that's needed. And since you're already seeing a gyn onc, you've got the right person for the job. :-)
