Upcoming hysterectomy 9/8: Feeling overwhelmed

Hello everyone. I am scheduled for my hysterectomy on 9/8 and with everything that is going on in my life I am so overwhelmed I am unsure how to handle it.
I have my first child going off to college and my family and I just purchased a house and between moving and working 2 jobs I get no time to process everything going on in my life. And then there is my hysterectomy. And I feel like I get no support from my friends or family. Everyone is like "You're having a hysterectomy? Oh, you'll be fine" or "Your lucky" Well, I don't feel fine or lucky. Even the people I know that have had this done are like "Oh, it's nothing"

Upcoming hysterectomy 9/8: Feeling overwhelmed

I am in almost the same spot with a child starting college and everyone saying I'm lucky and oh it's nothing.
Okay so..... it is something and you have every right to be overwhelmed. My advise is to tell your loved ones that it is not okay and you are scared. This why they know how you feel and maybe they are scared to but don't want to upset you.
Keep posting and get all the support you need from this site. My surgery is tomorrow and I'm a complete mess, I'm scared and my husband is being an ***. ( not about the surgery he has his issues and it's a bad week for him ). I as well feel totally alone and this just sucks.
Everyone has there own experience and everyone heals differently.
Read all you can off this site and get as prepared as you can this way you feel like you have a bit of control.
I hope you have a good day and I'm here if you need to vent.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 9/8: Feeling overwhelmed

I'm sure that people are just trying to make you feel less anxious. If you think about it, would you rather have them telling you how horrible it's going to be? I would have gone running in the other direction if someone had said that to me. I was scared to death before my surgery and didn't tell anyone about it because I didn't want to think or talk about it. I just talked to 2 friends who had recently had them. I had seen how well both did in their recoveries and felt that they would be reassuring. When I awoke from my surgery, one of my first thoughts was that if I had realized how not awful it was, I would have gotten the courage to do it long ago and saved myself a whole lot of time spent feeling lousy! I know first hand how scary it is, but please try not to be too hard on your friends and family who are likely trying to make you feel better (even though it's not working!) when you get through, you will probably be pleasantly surprised to find that it wasn't nearly as bad as you expect. Good luck, hope you have a smooth recovery!

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 9/8: Feeling overwhelmed

I'm about two months behind ya.

I know what you mean. I'm a hot mess and I don't really feel much support. But I guess what someone replied is true. Folks don't want to freak us out.

I just feel a little "not validated" when I'm all nuts about it and the response is "meh you'll be fine"....haha...

So cliche but hang in there!!!

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 9/8: Feeling overwhelmed

I go for my surgery on Aug 23 and feel the exact same way. My husband won't even talk to me about it.
I am scheduled for a lavh and my boss is set on me being back to work in less than 2 weeks. I have a desk job but I don't see how that is going to happen.
It is so hard to deal with all the emotions when nobody really listens to how you are feeling. Sorry you are going through this.
