Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Feb 16-Feb 22,2015
Surgery was this morning at 9:00. All went great with surgery. My doctor actually found a potential small tear in my colon and he threw s couple stitches to prevent a big rip and more surgery down the road. BONUS. So I had my uterus, cervix, tubes removed and a bladder tack.
I was extremely nervous about the possibility of being nauseous. Had a great talk with my anthesioligist. He so took care of me!!!!! Got the patch and extra doses of anti nausea meds.
They also did a tummy block. (Not sure technical term) prior to surgery to help with pain.
Right now I am resting......husband went home to tend to our boys and the dog. Pain level very minimal which is great!
Tomorrow packing comes out and I go home if I can pee enough.
So glad this is behind me. Looking forward to resting and healing in my own bed.

New Painful Leg cramps since Feb 2015 surgery - Any Advice?
Hello fellow sisters! I'm so happy to be writing from the OTHER side! Surgery was this a.m. at 7:30 and all went well. I had it done at a small hospital where I also work. Everyone was so nice and comforting! My doc said he'd do LAVH but the consent I signed was just VH. That was a bit confusing and when he arrived he agreed, VH because I was too prolapsed. Whatever. So no incisions in the belly. Good enough. I'm pretty sore, mostly crampy, and got my meds started. Only threw up once, as soon as I got home LOL I did grab an abd. binder from my unit (I work in OB) and just put it on. This is going to be great support to my belly! I wasn't sure I'd need one but thought it would hurt to have, since I had access to one. I like it!
Anyway, we left at 1pm and I have taken a couple naps in my own bed already.
I think I'm going to do just fine.
Someone else had theirs today too. I hope that sister stops by.
Here's a funny for you, though. I wasn't told to do a bowel prep but because I always tend to be rather constipated, I decided to take some Mag citrate yesterday to clean out so I didn't have to dig my way out of awful constipation. It worked well enough but up until surgery time I was still running in to the bathroom! Plenty of gas! I can't wait to ask my doc if I happened to have let some loose! LOL. How embarrassing! I'm sure my OR friends will tell me...have to find a way to laugh about it!
I think it's nap time again. Just really glad to be on this side of it. Unfortunately, I have another surgery to look forward to...he wouldn't do it altogether so I still need a bladder sling with cystocele and rectocele repair. EEks!

I was released two hours after surgery (on my account, I was able to eat and pee shortly after waking up). I am extremely active (hike mountains, run, workout, bike), but I'm taking it very easy. I am fortunate to have my husband at home and my mom staying with us. We have a 7 year old, and her friends moms have been helpful too. Everyone knows I will overdue it if I don't have a support group.
I am slightly uncomfortable, but not really in pain. My periods were so unbelievably painful & heavy-menorrhagia/adenomyosis) that this just feels like I did too many crunches with menstrual cramps. I've had 3 other abdominal surgeries, and with this one I don't even feel the Co2 gas nearly as bad.
I've been able to urinate. No problem, but I've on a liquid diet pre surgery and still today, so I haven't produced a BM yet. I am drinking "smooth move" tea, prune juice, and taking Colace, but with out much in there to "pass." I expect later or tomorrow morning (hopefully).
I slept on my side night one, with help from some pillows, as I'm not a back sleeper. And it felt ok. I've been walking around house a lot to keep things moving, but resting with legs up and ice pack.
I think the mental preparation is much worse than the other side. I am fairly encouraged, and wishing the same to all the other Sisters.

Welcome HeatherLynn,
I think you have had the "speediest" surgery release I've ever heard about - I am glad you felt that well.
Please try to temporarily put aside your red cape and let others pitch in while you recuperate.
Keep healing and recovering well.
Hugs and welcome.

Welcome Julie,
I'm so glad you came through this surgery ok. I know you must be worried about future surgery, but right now, try to concentrate on healing now. It sounds as if things went well so we are all thankful for that.
Please rest and remember you are a new recovering Princess.
Hugs!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Feb 16-Feb 22,2015
I had my surgery yesterday. It was supposed to be daVinci surgery, but after the first incision, my doctor realized that the adhesions from my endometriosis were too involved. So she switched to a total abdominal. So I have a smaller incision above my belly button and a large incision across my bikini line. Surgery went well, but lots of endo had to be removed. My doc said that my uterus was basically super glued to my bladder, my bowels were glued to my ovaries, my intestines were a mess. So I'm very sore from all the work she had to do in there. She took my uterus, cervix, tubes, and ovaries.
I had a rough time of it in recovery, breathing difficulties and a lot of pain. Last night was pretty tough and I didn't get much sleep. Today was much better, but still pretty sore. Luckily the nurses are taking great care of me. The plan is for me to go home tomorrow, though my doc said she's fine with letting me staying an extra night if I don't feel ready. I think I'll be good to go home tomorrow, but we'll see.
They finally removed my catheter this afternoon and I was able to pee on my own. I also took a shower, which felt great. I'm sore and slow, but I'm thrilled to be on this side of it! Now I just need to rest and recover.

New Painful Leg cramps since Feb 2015 surgery - Any Advice?
Haha. Thank you. I do have my family helping me. I was eating, drinking, walking, talking, urinating, within 2 hrs there was not much reason to stay in. I'm usually quite well from surgeries in a short amount of time. With that said, I'm still resting with walking around house, because I don't want to rupture anything or cause my recovery to be extended. It's a long road so I still have time to have bad days.
Thank you so much for the kind words and Best Wishes to everyone.

Welcome Becky,
Please rest and keep your options open - I know you are anxious to be released in sure, but you may decide you'd like a bit more of that extra care and observation since your surgery was a bit more extensive than planned.
Glad you made it through so well so far.
Hugs, Marcia

New Painful Leg cramps since Feb 2015 surgery - Any Advice?
New here so forgive me if I don't know the proper posting etiquette! I'm 27 years old and had a LAVH/BSO and a vestibulectomy yesterday 2/17 around 9:30am. Was discharged at 10:30pm with Tylenol. I was in severe pain and ended up back to my physician's office this morning. He wrote my stronger pain meds and an estrogen patch. Also discovered I have large bleeding hunner's ulcers inside of my bladder caused by IC. I don't know if it's the pain, fatigue, hormonal changes or realization I will never have children but I have been incredibly sad today. Hoping the pain calms down soon. Hugs to all and prayers for quick recoveries ❤️

welcome dear sister,
So sorry you had a bit of a rocky start -but it does sound as if your doctor is on top of things which is so important to your recovery - now and down the road.
Your sadness and feeling overwhelmed is a common feeling shared by many after surgery. Your hormones are effected and can play havoc on your emotional well being.
Hang in there - try to sleep and watch movies, read, or do whatever you need to thAt is a quiet activity that relaxes you.
Hugs and it will get better over time.
Glad you made it to the other side!
