Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince

Spoiler!

Considering I have a boss who turns a blind eye to all the selfish and unreasonable behavior of one of my co-workers, I guess I'm not feeling too sympathetic about what happened to a certain other character. Not to mention that character's blindness has put everyone else in jeopardy not to mention broken quite a few hearts. Have had too many losses of real people in the last year who were totally innocent. Araid it's made me a bit jaded....sorry.

Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince

HIya!!

Well, I read the book in 3 nights, and thoroughly enjoyed it but.....................

SPOILER

It was a bit of a washy ending. I was surprised that SS turned out to be a traitor, but I bet he'll end up being a double, double agent. Magonagall will be a bit of a crap head, too strict and starchy, although I guess there won't be too much school mentioned in the next book, they'll all be roaming the country like vigilantes, looking for horcruxes.
But it all gelled together well, and although wishy washy in the end, made a better story than the last book, that was altogether too angry for my liking!

What do others think?????

Fran:

Washy? Wishy-wasy? Couldn't say I found it that. I found the ending very moving, and I do think DD is dead, and SS is evil (with initials like that, what else could he be, but seriously...)

Harry has to defeat his parents' murderer on his own, it's a classic. SS being evil will make that whole crowd in America that hates the book even madder (you know, the ones that want David Copperfield out of the library, because he won't accept his stepfather's cruelty), because it means that Harry is right, DD is wrong, and a teacher is on the dark side of the force, to copy the Star Wars term.

I think their will be a Hogwarts, new students will come in, old ones will continue, didn't the public schools of England continue during the war? Even Eaton, which is really near London.

Book #5 was "too angry?" Expand on that, please. It's the book I liked least, too.

Cool - Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince harry potter and the half blood prince

Loved the book. Love all of them. As far as an earlier post goes, I know that what happened with DD was not as it seemed to Harry, but I don't think it was planned. Here's hoping I'm wrong though and DD will be back. I think Snape will prove to be a life saver to Harry in the last book. I was shocked at how it ended and I'm certainly looking forward to the showdown. I won't go into any more details so those who are just reading it won't be disappointed.

Okay, so maybe Snape is going to be "good" at the end, but it's going to be a final act of repentence.

I think having him as being "really good" all along would cheapen things.

Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince

Hi!
spoilers!

I enjoyed #5 the least, It just seemed to have an 'angry' thread running right through it!
Harry will have to go back to school, as he didn't manage to get his spells to penetrate SS. DD might pop up reincarnated in #7 (this is a magical book after all, )
SS will probably become good in the end, don't forget he turned bad at a very young age, (which as we oldies know is a very impressionable age), and not necessarily mean he's gonna stay bad. He also hated HPs dad, so HP has had to deal with SS's prejudices all through his school life, which probably also clouds the issue (plot)
Hopefully HP will retrieve the potions book from the room of requirement. I did wonder if it was SS's book, as after all, he WAS potions master.

Anybody else any other ideas??

Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince

Spoiler possible!
This is one American who would not be mad if indeed Snape really is bad. I have never liked him.

Redeemable? The only redeemable thing he did was to save Malfoy's life by accomplishing the deed Malfoy was sworn to do. But then again, he had sworn a life oath on the thing. He was too much of a coward in my opinion to back down and accept his fate once he knew what the task was to be. I hope Harry fries him as well as Voldemort. In a way, Snape reminds me of those mindless members of the Taliban who would kill anyone, anytime, no matter what, but are too chicken to stand up and fight, but instead do their evil deeds on the sly....

Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince

Although I love Harry Potter in general, I have to say I hated book #5 too! I have been a devout fan of Rowling from the beginning but
I almost gave the series up over it. #5 could have had 300 pages cut out and still been an angry, angst ridden, dreary, repetitive story. At least six was a better story -even if it was a honkerblonker at the end.
I hope she pulls #7 out and redeems the promise of the first 4.
I think of stories (as Gibran wrote of children)being "arrows you shoot in the air -they come down you know not where"
Once an author shares a creation with his or her readers a trust is made that should not be broken. Just my

Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince

I actually loved book #5. I can see a real person, a real kid especially without the maturity and world knowledge to make sense of what was happening, to react in the same way. Harry was terrified, and angry, and didn't know who to turn to, and even the one he thought he could turn to were cut off from him. He wasn't yet mature enough to see that all Dumbledore did was in Harry's best interests. And then on top of it, Harry's main support at school--again Dumbledore--was taken from him. I found the book to be rich in detail, and could see why Harry might feel prompted to run to Sirius's aid. After losing Sirius in book 5, I'm surprised Rowling didn't make book 6 just as angry.....
