Harry Potter #7 due on July 21st!!!!

Brilliant, isn't it? It's a week before my birthday as well, although whether I'll be able to keep my hot little hands off it till then is another matter. I'm pleased that it's July; at the moment, the very thought of schlepping a Potter tome around with me is more than I can contemplate, but by the summer, it'll be a different matter.

Have a happy, and with Harry, I'm sure you will!

I preordered mine at the local bookstore on my way home from work.

Nice to see the word schlepping in a post here - don't see words like that very often

Schlepping is a word I grew up with, but these things are catching - my (non-Jewish) DH often uses it without any self-consciousness at all, just as he often tells one of our felines to 'Move your tush cat!' Yiddish words are in fairly common use in the UK, but I think my DH is more comfortable with them than most and often says he can't think of anything better.

I've ordered HP7 from Amazon. They charge P&P for orders under £15, and HP is only £9, but I don't think I'll have a problem making the order up to £15 between now and July. I probably should order it from the local bookshop instead, but neither of ours are independents - they are owned by a big national chain, so it's not as if we are contributing to the vitality of bookselling in our area by opting for them over Amazon. However, you'll be able to pick yours up on the day it's released, whereas we'll have to hope that the Royal Mail can deliver when it says it will. The local service has been, let's put it kindly, patchy, for a number of years, but when it comes to PPD (Potter Publication Day) they somehow manage to get their tushes into gear. I hope they maintain this record for HP7.

Did you ever hear of the book Schlepping Through the Alps? I'm trying to find it.

I had a choice of ordering the UK or USA edition, so of course I went for the authentic UK edition, even though it costs more.

A friend of mine, a Reconstructionist rabbi in London sent me No.6, but since she refused to take money for it, I'm getting No.7 all by myself. + I get it on HP day, albeit I'll have to wait until Saturday night for the bookstore to reopen because of Shabbat.

I thought it was August 31st, but I could be wrong. . .still, with all the time I have on my hands to read after my operation, there's no excuse for not finding out, is there? If I start this week, I'll have plenty of time to re-read the other 6 before July. Is anyone else going to do that?

Marion - I hadn't heard of Schlepping through the Alps, but Amazon UK has. It's by a chap called Sam Apple and it's in paperback.

Darlington, Amberring -

Harry's b-day is in July sometime, I don't remember exactly when. Haggard brought him a birthday cake to the lighthouse.

You know, I think they changed the release date of the book, not so much because of the movie, but because 7-7 is a sad date for the British, anniversary of the tube bombing.

Thanks for the info about the book. But I think everything is being put off until I reread all of the previous HP books. Maybe I'll have some time between that and book 7.

- Marian

I have to say that we are all estatic about the release of HP7!!! My two teenage daughters and I love Harry Potter! (They're so funny ~ they're almost 18 and 15 and they've been fans since the first book came out.)
We all get our own copies and become completely engrossed in them the day they come out. Barnes and Noble usually has a release party that we go to and are able to pick it up right after midnight. It's tons of fun ~ characters dressed up, food, beverages, games, etc.

Oh, I have to ask this. Has anyone else ever seen so much controversy re: these books before? It's unbelievable. There are women here challenging the school boards to remove all the HP books from library shelves stating they are promoting witchcraft. One county already threw her case out because she'd never even read the books! LOL!

Just a short note from me - I've been diagnosed with tenosynovitis and can't spend a lot of time on the computer at the moment (so I'm doing loads of reading instead, which isn't exactly a chore. ) Waterstones on this side of the pond always has big Potterday events as well, but we get our book delivered by Amazon - then we wander into town after breakfast to watch children and their parents collect their copies from the bricks-and-mortar bookshops. The looks on their faces are worth getting out of bed for - I can't ever remember a book generating that sort of pleasure and excitement before.

I've re-read the first 5 books and am about to start The Half-Blood Prince. They are better for re-reading than I thought and I've revised my previous opinion, which was that The Prisoner of Azkaban was the best. Now I think it's The Order of the Phoenix. Also, if you can get hold of the audio books, they are well worth the trouble. I spent part of my recuperation time in bed with The Goblet of Fire. The UK version is read by the wonderful Stephen Fry and I understand that Jim Dale does a - beautiful job with the US version. Whichever one you get, they are ideal for when you want a story but are too tired or busy to read it yourself.
