Re: Funny moments from hospital stay...add yours!

And I remember after waking up telling one nurse that, "my mouth is as dry as a popcorn fart."

I seem to have a thing about passing gas.

In the middle of the night I went to pee and was surprised when I peed over 850 ML. (the pee hat only measured up to 850 ML). I was recording my own urine output so I could empty the pee out. When I wrote down the amount down, I put "Nurse's bladder is back!"

No major episodes or amusements in the hospital.

Re: Funny moments from hospital stay...add yours!

I remember hearing one nurse say to another nurse--maybe when I was being transferred from recovery to the ward or something?--"This one is VERY appreciative." I have no idea what was meant, but I'm hoping that I showed my appreciation in appropriate ways!

Re: Funny moments from hospital stay...add yours!

Waking up after recovery is still a blur, however my dh said I was the funniest ever and totally not making sense. I told him he should have made a video, oh the memories...
I tried not to have too many funnies while during my stay as it did hurt to laugh.
I do remember trying to pee for the first time after they took out the catheter. I get pee fright. After 5 mins and no luck I came out of the bathroom. Decided to go back in with a crossword puzzle book, the nurse smiled and encourage me "You can do it!" What do you know! Crossword puzzle worked like a charm
I felt like high fiving the nurse.

These are stories that can keep nurses smiling all shift.

I also amused the surgical staff in the OR with the name of the first surgeon to do a breast biopsy on me... Dr. Savage, No joke, that was his name!

The nurse was checking my incision and I had the urge to "pass wind" so I told her, sorry and let it rip and boy did I let it rip....the nurse said the patients in the next wing even felt better

The lady in bed opposite to me seemed to think that pulling her curtains around her bed would also soundproof it ....nope everyone could hear your passing wind

Re: Funny moments from hospital stay...add yours!

I needed more ice water in the wee hours the night after my surgery. My exhausted mother was sound asleep and so was my husband. I called for him to wake up, but got no response. I eventually had to throw my ice cream spoon at him to get him awake.
