Feeling very nervous about recovery pain, constipation and side effects; anything to prepare for the hysterectomy?

I had a vaginal hysterectomy with cystocele an vault repairs two days ago. I was most terrified by the first BM which I had today. The doctor told me that I could not strain at all so it was difficult because I didn't really know what to do since most bm's require some straining, even a little. So when I felt it coming I started walking and it really helped. Good luck to you!!

I just a laparoscopic super cervical .and I'm glad I did it .im only 8 days out as of today. I didn't stay in the hospital or anything. I had a wonderful dr . But like you I was super super nervous.im 48 yrs old and I put if off for so many years. I was terrified b/c I heard everyone telling stories .but my husband was with me all the way.while I prep in the hospital room it was comforting. But to what eased my mind I prayed left in gods hands and when they told me we are gonna give u something to relax you I said ok ,lol after that I didn't remember anything. As far as constipation I immediately took a stool softener the very next day drank water because I was on Percocet and that constipates you. Then I had about 2 sips of prune juice next day I had a bowel movement . And I recommend if they give you ibprofen take that and stop the strong stuff only if your body isn't in pain I took the Percocet for fri sat and Sunday which was my last day I got tired of sleeping. I think you will do just fine. I'm recovering well oh one more thing if u laugh ,cough or sneeze have a pillow handy cause it hurts. I still feel pain when I do those 3 things.

I had a case of water by my bed so that I could get to it easily and drink it consistently. Water helps clear the anesthesia out of your body and keep your colon from getting as locked up with the pain meds. Plus, getting up to go to the bathroom helps you-moving every three or four hours teaches your body a recovery path.
