Has anyone had their uterus and gallbladder removed at the same time??

I think I'm having a gallstone attack! . I go tomorrow for a gallbladder ultrasound. I am wondering if I can have both removed at the same time. Has anyone had that done or heard of having it done? Is it too risky ??

I haven't had my hyst yet but I did have my gallbladder out. That was no big deal at all! A little sore, the gas pains, and a low fat diet for awhile. Heck, it might be a good thing because until your body gets used to having no gallbladder, things can run through you so you may not have to deal with constipation. I would have no worries having it at the same time. Good luck to you!

I guess I could wait until after my hysterectomy since my uterus is bothering me more than my gallbladder. I am just in so much pain from my gallbladder I feel like I'm about to explode. I feel so bloated and my side hurts to even sit up straight on the couch. It will be over soon oh very soon

Honey, your gallbladder can turn into an emergency situation where it would have to be removed pronto. That is what I am afraid of for you because then they might have to back up your hyst until you are recovered from that surgery. I don't know about that for sure but I ended up in the ER with a horrid attack and it was removed within days. It would have been removed that very night but the ER doc was a twit and put that I had heartburn. Yeah, right honey, heartburn even though I had very large gallstones they were aware of. I don't think you want that happening when you're trying to recoup from a hyst if you try to wait. Getting the gallbladder out is a walk in the park compared to the attacks, believe me! What I am wondering is if they could give you something to calm your gallbladder so you could have it taken at the same time as your hyst. I wouldn't risk leaving it until later in case it did turn into an emergency on you. Please keep us posted!

Yeah you are right it would be horrible to have this turn into an emergency. I just called the same medical group that belongs to my ob gyn that is doing the davinci on the 09/02 and they can not get me in until October 02. I think that is ridiculous since I was in pain, I had an ultrasound scheduled today for my gallbladder. The ultrasound tech said my doctor should get the results in 24 to 48 hours. I guess we will go from there.

My gyno told me I could have both out at the same time. (I had an attack 8 years ago, but passed the stone and haven't had a problem since.) I opted not to because it hasn't bothered me, but I know it can be done. I'd ask your gyno and see what they say.

I had my gallbladder removed in Oct 08. The surgery and recovery was a snap. The doc gave me a week off from work, but I really didn't need it. I guess my question would be if you had both surgeries at the same time, would you have a different doctor do each surgery? I had an Ob/gyn for my hysterectomy and a general surgeon for my gallbladder. In my opinion, once you get the hysterectomy you will not be feeling like having another surgery anytime soon. The recovery from the hyster takes a lot of time, energy and focus. Just my thoughts. Whatever you decide I wish you the best. Good luck.

Glad to hear the surgery was a snap for you . I was wondering that also would my ob gyn do both surgeries or would another surgeon would come in and remove it. That is the reason I called the same medical group today but I will not be able to get in with a gastroenterologist until Oct 2. I am gonna wait to see what my regular doctor says once she get my results (should be 24-48 hours from now) from my gallbladder ultrasound I had today but I am also going to ask my ob gyn that is doing the davinci on me on the 2nd of September when I go to pre-op on thursday. If he can do both or help me coordinate with another surgeon to get them done both at the same time that would be great. Right now I just feel a dull pain but Im not in so much pain like I was yesterday. I think it would help if I would not eating too much fatty foods :?

I'm having it tomorrow. Two doctors are needed. I was told that recovery and pain would be the same as if I only had the TAH. I'll let you know when I'm back how it went.
