Upcoming hysterectomy 8/20: Question about clear liquids diet day before surgery

My surgery is scheduled for Wednesday and today I went my pre op appointment and they told me I can have a light breakfast tomorrow and the clear liquids for the rest of the day. Is the normal routine? It says I can't have any dairy so I don't know what I'll be able to eat therefore I see at least a day and a half of the hungry horrors ahead of me

I had clear liqud diet the day before till midnight along with a bowel preop .Clear liquids include broth(chicken and beef etc) , jello( I was told no red), clear juices(no pulp) black coffee, plain tea, gaterade(no red). I was allowed Popsicles (no red) too. Basically anything you can see through. It was pretty limited. You can find more info on the net. They don't want anything in the bowel....

I was wondering about the liquid diet too! I say, if we have to have liquids the day before surgery. Then the day before that, we should go out and eat our favorite foods. LOL

I had to do a bowel prep and clear liquid diet the day before my surgery. I actually started the liquid diet one extra day early in the attempt to make the bowel prep easier (which I think it did) I had chicken broth, jello, pop, popsicles, coffee, etc. It was not that awful. I was nervous so probably not as hungry as usual anyway.

That's a good idea. I might do that. My surgery is on a Tuesday. And my sweet Husband is taking me out the Saturday before. I'll have my favorite food then.

I was told clear liquids only after 5 PM the day before surgery and then no food or liquids at all after midnight. The morning of my surgery I had to walk two miles from my apartment to the bus station and then another mile from my destination bus station to the hospital. I was a bit worried about low blood sugar, but I was fine.

For clear liquids I drank vegetable broth and light-coloured fruit juices without pulp. One was a peach/white grape blend and the other was white cranberry. I tried to drink a lot of juice so as to pre-load my blood sugar. I honestly don't think I'll ever be able to drink either flavour of juice again.

My surgeon didn't tell me to do any bowel prep, but I had a Fleet enema when I got to the hospital.
