This is an excellent question for your doctor. My doctor started me on HRT the day after my surgery. HRT can be a process of trial and error to find the right combination and delivery method. Call your doctor's office beforehand to ask or ask your doctor in pre-op.

I assume you are having your ovaries removed, which is why you are asking. This really does depend on the individual, your age and other issues. You do need to talk to your doctor to decide the best course of action for you. Here are 6 Tips to Help You Prepare for Surgical Menopause.
I had a TAH BSO at age 46, and tried to go through surgical menopause without hormones. I was MISERABLE. I started hormones (oral bio-identical estrogen) about 3 months after my surgery. It did give me my life back. And my doctor said it is better for my health.
