Oophorectomy? Will it help lessen the hormones?

My surgery is May 11. It is a DaVinci supracervical hysterectomy with a tubal removal. They say when they leave the ovaries you still experience PMS, sometimes worse than before. I already suffer from PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder). I'm waiting on a call back from my docs NP to see what can be done about the ovaries. Would it be logical to get them both removed and slap a HRT patch on directly? I'm confused and irritated. These last three days gave been a complete hormonal wreck and I don't want that anymore than I want the debilitating pain and excessive bleeding.

Re: Oophorectomy? Will it help lessen the hormones?

That's a hard question to answer. Surgical menopause has its own set of issues, and for some, HRT balance is a challenge. But, for others, it's a big improvement over what they suffered before. You might want to do a site search for PMDD for some experiences, and I hope others who had similar issues will chime in. Have you tried meds for your PMDD so far? If not, you may want to go that route first. This is a difficult decision, gather all the info you can, and best wishes on making the decision right for you.

Oophorectomy? Will it help lessen the hormones?

I'm on lots of meds lol. I also suffer from bipolar and anxiety. My mom had the oophorectomy and did the HRT and she had no issues. I'm still waiting on the NP to call back. Luckily I have a VERY understanding S.O. and when this all goes down I will have him and my momma with me. Thank you though I will keep it updated
