My wonderful sister-in-law told me about this web site. I have no extended family nearby. She and the rest of the family are in Ontario, about 3000 miles East. So I know that this web site will be a great soure of support.

I'm looking forward to tapping into it and getting me through the wait of my hysterectomy/cysocele/rectocele surgery, as well as post-op.

I'm nervous -some days even nauseous just thinking about it. I've had prolapse for years though and it has been exhausting to deal with. Difficult to walk some days, walking is a big part of my job at a 'walk-in clinic'.

Are there advantages to having an abdominal hysterectomy vs. a vaginal hysterectomy? I'm also having the vag walls tightened.

Thanks for this web site!

I don't really have answers to the questions about vag vs. ab. hysterectomy...I wanted to reply because we are having similar surgeries. I am having cystocele/rectocele repair also. My gyn. told me she would be able to do the hysterectomy vaginally, and I will see the urologist in a couple of weeks...hope he says the same thing. There's sure to be some sister wisdom coming your way soon!
Thanks for introducing yourself! This site is wonderful!

Hi Paula!

Welcome to HysterSisters! There is tons of info, advice, support, and s when you need them!

Which type of surgery has your DR decided on? Sometimes it depends on the size of the uterus whether you are a candidate for a vaginal hyst. If you have endo, adeno, or adhesions, your DR may choose to do an abdominal hyst so he can see easier.

The obvious difference between a vag hyst and and abdominal is the incision. This can be good or bad. If you have an incision you have a reminder that you just had major surgery. If you have a vag hyst you don't have that reminder, but the surgery is just as major.

Hope this helps!

Best wishes.
