Upcoming hysterectomy 8/19 - how long did you wait to go back to pilates?

I take pilates twice a week, plus personal training (strength & conditioning) three times a week, run, dance class, yoga..... when can you get back into physical exercise? The endorphins it releases keeps me level I don't think can stay laid up for more than a couple of days

That's a question for your doctor and of course everyone recovers differently but I will say that for the first few weeks of recovery just bending to put on my socks was painful. I had to walk slightly hunched over for a month due to pain. Before surgery I didn't realize how limited my everyday movements would be due to pain.

Yes, only your doctor can clear you for exercise.

Typically, total pelvic/core and weight restrictions apply for 6 weeks.

If you lose your cervix, the top of your vagina will be sewn so exercise is a serious risk even if you feel good.

Recovering is not about staying in bed all day, after a week you should be able to resume many activities.
Walking is more than encouraged.

Make sure you have a clear understanding of physical restrictions from your surgeon

Yes, you definitely need to ask your doctor. S/he will be able to give you a time frame, given the activities that you normally do. But, you really need to think in terms of multiple weeks. And be prepared to work back into this very slowly (over months).

It was eight weeks before I was cleared to fully exercise. (I also haven't been to a class in months because of COVID.) I typically do the walk-at-home/strength videos, and I still get twinges near my incision.
