BM question from a newbie

HI, I am new to the board. Had my TVH on Monday and not sure what is happening. I have horrible cramping and contractions in my intestines. I have had BM's but they hurt alot in the front. Happens to a lesser degree when I urinate. Is this normal? If so how long until it feels more normal? I am taking stool softners. Thanks for any advice.

Boy, I hear ya!

Hey Montana, do I ever hear ya! I had my TAH the day after yours, and am also experiencing the BM Blues! I think we really have to watch what we eat, and when. I'm also trying to stay up from a sitting, reclining position as much as possible. Not sure that stool softeners are that effective. I'm doing milk of mag in the evenings.
I think this recovery would be so much more pain-free, if we could manage the gas, bm situation. Let me know what works for you! Good Luck!

BM question from a newbie

If you are not doing so already, please try taking Gas-X. I found the strips work very fast. I suffered terribly with unreal bouts of constipation post surg and foolishly didn't start the Gas-X till mid-way into week 3. You would be amazed at how much gas is actually in your tract with you bm and with our systems in an uproar, it can't always pass readily.

Also keep in mind that your bowels are readjusting in there. They have more space now! You're very early out and it does get better with time. Keep taking the softeners. You may think they aren't doing much, but they are. If your bm still feels too hard, call the doc and ask if you can take an extra one or two colace or whatever he/she has you on and drink water like crazy.

Personally, I would call my doctor's office tomorrow afternoon when the Monday AM rush has subsided if you aren't feeling better, run this all by them and see what they say. You've paid a lot for their expertise. Use it! )
hugs

I remember having the terrible BM blues too . I thought I would die in there! But if it helps to know, things do get much much better as teh weeks go on . Once things heal up in there, you won't have that pain, and you will be able to walk again without it feelign like your insides will drop. I still have to be careful now not to get constipated. I feel good, and forget that I'm still healing too. So I forget to drink the water. hang in there!

Relief at the grocery store

Boy o boy...I feel ya! You might want to ask someone to stop at the grocery store to pick up lots of fruits, veggies, whole grain breads, prune juice and Colace. Fruit and 12 grain bread did the trick for me. The peeing and pooping pain WILL get better!

BM question from a newbie

I posted some suggestions as a new thread earlier today - it is called Good BM advice - it has helped tremendously and I had my TAH on the 9th

Always check with your DR before trying anything radical, my DR recommended the enema that I used and am still using as of today. They are gental and really help a lot for me
