Upcoming hysterectomy July 8th: Bloating pre-hysterectomy and weight loss after?

I have had increasingly more bloating each day as I am leading up to surgery. Even eating a small meal makes me bloat up to 5 month pregnancy size. The fibroids are pushing all my organs, I guess, making the giant stomach inevitable. Those of you who had an abdominal hysterectomy already, PLEASE tell me that eventually the bloat goes away, and I will lose some of this water retention weight! I am being very optimistic that after surgery I will drop some weight. I actually bloated up like this years ago right before my radical neck dissection for thyroid cancer. Very odd - like my body is preparing for surgery or something. I didn't have any weight issues until the last 4-5 months but now I feel huge - nothing fits right. Its horrible! Any success stories after surgery ?? I hope!

Re: Bloating pre-surgery and weight loss after?

My surgery was TLH but I do have a vertical c-section scar. Prior to my surgery my body looked like a "block". I could feel the top part of my uterus near my belly button.(ended up being the size of my surgeon's hand and weighed 1 pound-felt way bigger lol) I was unable
to exercise properly due to anemia.

I made a deal with myself that after my surgery the focus would be on change. Once I was recovered I would be focusing in on healthy eating choices and appropriate levels of exercise. The changes were subtle at first and then at 6 months post-op I started to see results. Overall I have lost over 25 lbs. My body has a bit of shape.

Please be kind to yourself after surgery and take things slowly. For first few days after surgery I had a lot of fluid retention. Each day post-op should find you feeling a bit better. Good luck on your wellness journey

My hysterectomy was for fibroids too, and I had exactly the same thing you describe; I had terrible bloating and indigestion after just eating my breakfast! My doctor said that my enlarged uterus - about 22 week size - was pressing on my stomach; after my surgery, it completely cleared up. As for weight loss, as long as you follow a sensible diet plan, with regular moderate exercise, you should start to see results within a month or two. Best wishes for your upcoming surgery and recovery!

I don't know if this helps to answer your question, but if you keep your ovaries you are still going to have your cycles, until you go through natural menopause, if you haven't been through it already.

I still get monthly sore boobs.
