How it went.....

My surgery, TAH-BSO, was on Tuesday at 2:30. The waiting was the worst. Finally, they took me in to prep me. I was nervous, but then they gave me the "I don't care drug", I laughed all the way to the OR. Once I was in there, I met a nurse and remember nothing more. I woke at 5 in recovery. Had alot of pain. But they wanted to stop with the meds to move me to my room and start my pump. Yeah!!!! It was probably only fifteen minutes to get there and set up. Once I was on the pump, which was demerol, I was doing better. But they did use morphine in recovery which made me throw up when I got to my room. They gave me anti nausea meds and then I was doing better. I had a catheter, IV and oxygen at that point. My family visited me for about fifteen mintues, around 7 and that was about all I could do. I was in and out of sleep. Later that night they got me to sit up and wanted me to brush my teeth, NOT! I was still a bit nauseas. They gave me a back rub and off to bed I went.

The next day I woke up soooo much better. They took off the oxygen, and took my catheter and got me up to pee. Good, went fine, even brushed my teeth. Later in the morning we realized that the demerol was making my body feel kind of numb so they took me off of that and gave me toradol. It was great. They had me up a few times that afternoon and by evening I was up on my own.

On Thurs morning my doc came in and said I was doing so well that he would be back at five to kick me out. Which he did! I was home by 7PM.

Each day has been better than the last. I nap when I need to and take Darvocet for pain. My doc also has me taking Motrin for helping any inflammation. And Tylenol for any fever. Which I seem to go between 98.4 and 99.8. But I think that is pretty good.

I have some soreness at the incision but nothing bad. Maybe a bit of burning at times. But it looks great and is getting better every day.

Last night I had my first hot flash. Yuck! I never thought it would go away. At my two week check my doc will start me on Premarin and hopefully that will work for me.

But, this was how it went for me. I thought that I would share my experience with everyone. It really was not bad.I think the worst part of the whole thing was the wait.

Thank you

Thanks for sharing your experience with us Gayle. Every time I read that someone came through this surgery and is doing better, I am more reassured than I was before. Thanks again for taking the time to do that.

Take care and rest.

Best of luck to you.

Hi Gayle

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I am glad you are home and doing well.
It is always so nice to hear someone say that waiting was the worst part. I don't think the can hear that too often.
Please take it easy and remember all your training.

Welcome home

Gayle

Welcome home. Great to hear all went well for you. Sounds like you will be a wonderful princess too. Keep up with the resting, walking a little often and drinking your fluids.

I am now 5 months post op and since day 2 post op I have never looked back. I took the time, healed properly, did all the right things and now I just can't believe that it is 5 months already.

All the very best wishes for your continued recovery.

Regards

Gail
