Went for Pre-Op Today

Well, I went for my pre-op - had my list of questions for the doctor. I have decided to have a general anesthesia just because I don't want to know anything until it is all over. I feel strange going for surgery when I have no symptoms. My situation is that I have a large cyst on my right ovary that may or may not be malignant. If I hadn't gone for my regular check-up, I would have been walking around not knowing anything was wrong. So, unlike those of you who are looking forward to being relieved of pain and bleeding, I'm just hoping that my cyst is benign. This is my first surgery and I feel like I am pretty calm, but the not knowing is the hard part. My doctor was very good about answering my questions. I told her about this site -- I think she was surprised at some of the questions that I asked - things I wouldn't have thought about without Hystersisters. Thanks to all of you and all the wonderful information that I have gotten. It is so nice to know that you aren't alone!!

Hi Norma

I do understand about going in for surgery when you are feeling well. I actually felt pretty good before mine too.
I too had the general anesthesia and had no problems with it.
We can offer you support over on the Cancer concerns forum too if you would like. I am sure not knowing is scary. There are lot's of wonderful women there who would be happy to offer you support while you wait to find out.
I am glad you are feeling prepared and that HS has helped you to know what questions to ask.
You are right you are never alone here.
