Any Sisters in Utah?
Hi snickers!
Here goes ..... In january I went to visit my OB because of months of heavy bleeding - I thought it was the birth control. During an exam, he found a fibroid - It was on a stalk attached in the uterus and had come down through the cervix and was hanging there. I had it removed about 10 days later and thought that would be the end of it. Two weeks later I get a call from hime saying it was malignant (first time he had EVER seen this).
I was referred to a gyn oncologist for treatment. He did two ultrasounds and an imaging CT and presented my case to a tumor board. Both tests showed no other fibroids. The board recomended a hyster and one more test - a hysteroscopy and D&C. Had that done a couple of weeks ago - all samples were benign. I spoke with my doc again and he felt confident that I could wait and have children. This was a big change from the previous recomendation and I had already decided that I would go ahead with the hyster as the best change for a "cure". So I was pretty much confused and frustrated at this point. My doc said he wanted to present to the board one more time to see what they would say with the new info. He called me back this morning and said they still have the same recomendation. So now I have one doc saying wait and have babies and a board of docs saying hyster.
The problem with this cancer is it usually shows up in peri/postmenoposal women who are done with children - not 29 yr old women like me. I just got married about a year ago an ddo not have children yet - we are about 3-5 yrs out.
At this point I don't know what to do. I DO know that I want this cancer gone if it is still there, but I would hate to be wrong and find out it was gone already. The only way to know for sure is the hyster and biopsy it.
So that's where I am at now.
thanks for listening,
Errin

Hi Errin
Oh Errin,
I am so sorry to hear what a decision you have to make. You are so young.
Have you heard anything else from your Dr.'s. Where are you going in SLC?
Do you feel comfortable with your Doctors? If you don't, I do know with my ins. (which I hate, overpriced for what you get) I am so limited with who I can go to. I live in Syracuse about 15 min North of the Layton Hills Mall.
Is your husband supportive? I sure hope so. Mine is. He does have his days when I am down in bed a few times a month and I can tell he is frustrated. It is hard to work a full time job and take care of 3 kids and a sick wife.
I do know that if I had not had children yet and had found out the things you have just found out, how ever sad and hard it is, you have to take care of yourself first and foremost. Adoption is an option down the road. My best friend went that route and is very happy. She knows that is was in the best interrest of her safety and her husband was very concerned.
Hope you will keep in touch.
Let me know what you decide and if you need anything, several of us aren't too far away!
Shireen

Any Sisters in Utah?
Shireen and other Utah ladies,
I am a very lucky woman and am trying my best to remeber that. My husband is amazing and has been very supportive through this entire thing.
I am also lucky to have good insurance (the largest provider in Utah) so I have great medical care. Hopefully Hunstman Cancer Institute should be an option soon as well. Docs are still limited though - only four gyno oncologists, but from what I have been able to find out, mine is one of the best (could use some help in bedside manner).
I am still weighing my options, but above all I want this thing to be as gone as it could be. I know that means hyster, but life is precious and babies don't MAKE your life they are only a PART of your life. We are not judged in life by how many babies we could have, but how much we loved them and everyone else (and again I keep trying to remind myself of that).
thanks for the responses and I hope to "hear" from you all soon!
Errin
