Hello new (adenomyosis, fibroids)

Hi, I'm hoping someone from the post hyster board can also chime in w/ some advice.

I am 33 have 6 children ages 10months to 10yro. I am done having children so getting a hyster is not a sad thing for me. I plan on keeping my ovaries, so i don't have to worry about the hormonal thing.

Can you request that your cervix be removed also, or is that at the dr's discretion? The two things that I worry about is the bladder failure and the ovaries dropping. Will a dr, suspend the ovaries and lift the bladder to avoid furtehr complications if you ask? I haven't been to my refered dr yet, but my ob said since i am anemic and pretty certain i have aden they will do a hyster.

I've had 3 c/s and want to know if the pain (afterwards) is similar

Ok I don't like reading long posts so I'll stop there and add more later. Thank you all!

Hello new (adenomyosis, fibroids)

I had a LSH and kept my ovaries and cervix. My dr. said that keeping my cervix it helps to support the pelvic floor. When I asked him about ovaries dropping, the dr. said it depends on whether the surgeon "ties them up" right the first time. It can happen, but its rare. I think whether you keep the cervix or not is up to the doctor and the patient. My first dr. wanted to do a LAVH and remove my cervix and ovaries. It was the 2nd dr. who suggested I keep them and do the LSH and I'm glad I stayed with dr. #2. There are lots of info on this website about the pros and cons of keeping your cervix and women have done well keeping/not keeping it.
Its just something that you and your dr. will have to decide. But I'd make sure that you're fully informed of all the options.
Best wishes on your surgery!

Hello new (adenomyosis, fibroids)

hey there new! i would believe that you can let your surgeon know your feelings about your cervix. do you know what type pf surgery you will have? if it is a tvh, they will take the cervix for sure. there is a list of pre-op questions in that forum. i printed it out and highlighted it as the questions pertained to my own, and took it to the doc w/ me. i was worried about bladder failure also. my doc asked if it was a problem for me already, i replied no. she said the its not an issue here.??? good news is that it hasn't become one since! i would say that the surgery goes in the same place, if you have a tah, but that is where the similarities end. the healing process is much different, and much longer for most. just, no matter what, follow you restriction guidelines-see checkpoints here at hyster sisters-to maintain your healing. many have found that they vacuumed, or played too much and later have significant complications. drink lots of water, rest, and don't lift! truely take care of you! lots of love! see you on the other side sweetie! hey-if you have any more questions, ask! being informed is very empowering!
