Went to Preop today

Hi ladies.... Well, I went to my preop appt today. It just reminds me how close the big day is. I got all my instructions and work excuses and pain meds.
I can't help but be a little excited. I'm ready to start living a normal life free from constant pain and bleeding. I had a nurse at the hospital grill me on why I wanted a hyst and maybe I haven't thought it through because I was only 30 and 30 yr olds shouldn't be having a hyst. I finally got upset and told her it was absolutely none of her concern what decision I make on behalf of my health. It was not her place. Some people...geez. Oh well, nonetheless, I'm ready!

I remember how my pre-op appointment made the surgery more real. I'm glad you have all your instructions, excuses and pain meds. It sounds like you're all set. It'll be here soon so hang in there and remember that we're here, if you need us!

The time will fly by and before you know it, you will be at the castle recovering! I hate when the nurses grill you or say totally stupid things, but they think they are helping. I can relate to wanting to get the pain (I haven't bled in 4 years, not even a drop after my TAH/BSO). You will feel like a new woman! Just take you recovery slowly, let people pamper you and get lots of rest!!

Pre-Op does make it more real. I found a "nesting" instinct kicked in after mine. I started working on making the house as clean as possible, and stocking up on comfort items. Time really flies. While I am only 3 weeks out since my surgery, I know that I am looking forward to getting my life back. I wish you all the best.
Just remember rest, relax and let others help you through this time. As I keep being told you only have one time to heal. Give yourself time, this is your time.

Hi Amy, I had my pre-op yesterday and felt the same, I am 38 and this sems to me the chance to have a more normal life, free of the pain and bleeding and planning around the pain and bleeding. I echo 'Skymps' and am currently spring cleaning!

you are not alone, there are many of us in our 30's facing these decisions, I don't believe it's ever an easy one. Perhaps the nurse meant well, this is major surgery after all? But I think you should be proud of yourself, there's nothing more wonderful than a woman who knows she's making the right choices for herself.

I think that unless someone has to literally deal with the chronic pain like we have, they can not fully understand our decisions to undergo the hysterectomy. I told on nurse after she questioned my decision..."Well, gee, with 3 kids, a hubby, fulltime job and a dog, I thought having a hysterectomy was the only way I could get a little break because its not like I already have a full plate or anything". lol She didnt talk to me much after that

I know she probably meant well, it just came across kinda mean and inconsiderate. I got defensive because I don't feel like I should have to defend myself about this decision. Oh well....maybe she won't be the one to help with my surgery. LOL. That would be my luck.

I am nesting like crazy too. I feel a sense of panic coming on just thinking of all that needs to be done. I'm trying to remind myself that it will get done...and its ok if it doesn't.

Congrats on getting to your pre-op and being done with it!!

I know it is easier said than done, but take a couple of deep breaths and remember that things should be much better when everything is done and over with!
