Friday is my day as well. Getting prepped at home today and working on tidying up things at work as well. Nervous and anxious but trying to keep my thoughts on other things.

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Oct 16, 2016
Many women are confused by the terms Partial, Supracervical, and Total Hysterectomy. It helps to know that the cervix is part of the uterus, and not a separate organ.
Partial (or supracervical) hysterectomy is removal of the top part of the uterus only, leaving the cervix.
Total hysterectomy means the entire uterus is removed, including the cervix. Total hysterectomy does not include the removal of the ovaries.
Removal of the ovaries may be done at the same time as a hysterectomy, but it is a separate procedure altogether and is called a Bilateral Oophorectomy.
Below is a list of procedures and their abbreviations:
- TAH: Total Abdominal Hysterectomy - Removal of entire uterus (including the cervix)
- TAH BSO: Total Abdominal Hysterectomy & Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy - Removal of entire uterus and both tubes and ovaries
- LAVH: Laparoscopic Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy - Vaginal Hysterectomy with the aid of a scope inserted through or near the belly button. The entire uterus is then delivered through the vagina
- TVH: Total Vaginal Hysterectomy - Removal of entire uterus through the vagina
- TLH: Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy - Removal of entire uterus through the laparoscopic method
- SAH: Supracervical Abdominal Hysterectomy - Removal of uterus (leaving cervix) through an abdominal incision
- LSH: Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy - Removal of uterus (leaving cervix) through the laparoscopic method
- RALH: Robotic Assisted Laparoscopic Hysterectomy - Removal of entire uterus through robotic laparoscopic method
- dvTH: da Vinci Total Hysterectomy - Removal of entire uterus with the da Vinci robot
- dVSH: da Vinci Supracervical Hysterectomy - Removal of uterus (leaving cervix) with the da Vinci robot
- BSO: Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy - Removal of both ovaries and tubes
- BS: Bilateral Salpingectomy - Removal of both fallopian tubes (leaving ovaries)
- LSO: Left Salpingo-Oophorectomy - Removal of left ovary and fallopian tube
- RSO: Right Salpingo-Oophorectomy - Removal of right ovary and fallopian tube

Hello VeraXio,
It is normal to feel sad, angry, or weepy before your hysterectomy. Please know that you are not alone, and we are here for you. Many women feel pre-op is the most difficult part, as the waiting and the unknowns are so difficult. Surround yourself with family and whatever gives you comfort. Light candles, take a bath, go for a walk and ask for extra hugs. And come here often so we can help support you on your journey. You can do this!

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Oct 16, 2016
Hi all. Nice to meet you. Just checking in. A little about me. I have a 9yo and almost 2yo running around. There's homeschooling, PT, OT, speech, behavioral therapy, etc, every week for the oldest. She's struggling with a lot of anticipatory anxiety right now, and helping her has truly been my focus. She has CP, amongst other challenges, and is worried about who is going to help with her hygiene (she doesn't want Daddy to do it because he's a man).
Anyway, this is not my first surgery, and pain is not new for me. Strangely, I don't have a lot of fears about the surgery itself.
I am concerned about menopause, and how my recovery will affect my family.

Oh, and as my name implies, I love to crochet. It helps with the pain. Any other fiber artists in here?

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Oct 16, 2016
Hello All,
I am having a TVH on the 18th. I had two fibroids removed a few years ago, but apparently they had smaller friends that decided to grow like crazy. One of them was the size of an orange and I can feel it when I walk. My gyn says my uterus is so riddled with fibroids that it's like a bag of marbles. We initially tried using Mirena for the bleeding but because the fibroids have misshapen my uterus, I expelled the device twice (very painful and even more blood!) I have suffered horrible cramps and horrible bleeding for years. My TVH is long overdue.
I am trying to stay busy so I don't get nervous. I was so nervous at pre-op that my BP was 150/100 which is not my norm. I am really trying to keep calm. I keep reminding myself how nice it would be to be able to wear light colored pants again! My wardrobe has been dark slacks.
This will be my first hospital stay and I am trying to pack a light bag right now (first pair of yoga pants I ever had), and I can feel my pulse throbbing in my throat. So much for trying to stay calm!
I am looking for forward to being able to share my post-op experience as that will mean that I am back home in my bed. Hoping I stop with the random crying. I found myself crying at a stop light. I didn't even realize I was crying until the light turned green.
Glad to read the comments. Reminded me to put extra pillows on my bed. Someone also suggested having a chair by the bed so I will do that also.
Prayers and positive wishes to all having surgery this week!

Hi ((MayJan)). Many hospitals will call the day before surgery to let you know when to be there . . . surgery times can be changed due to unforeseen circumstances. I was given all of my instructions at my pre-op appointment. It wouldn't hurt to give your doctor's office a call in the morning to make sure you have your prep instructions.
on your surgery . . . we will be waiting for you.

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Oct 16, 2016
Hi everyone! My name is Cindy. I am scheduled for a lap hysterectomy on Friday the 21st. I am 31 years old, married almost 16yrs, 4 kids. I have been having 11-15 day periods which made me anemic. I have had endo in the past (not sure if it came back), have had a uterine suspension, painful sex. So when I went to the Dr he said right away he would do a hysterectomy.
I am a bit anxious. I have had many abdominal surgeries so that part isn't new to me. I watched a youtube video of a hysterectomy last night and ugh, I hate OR things.
Mine is an outpatient procedure, although I wish they would keep me for the sake of a bit of assistance for the night. They want a responsible adult to be with me for 24hrs and my husband is going hunting when we get home and he works midnights so it will be a bit rough with my younger two who are 2.5 and 4.
I plan to start reading and replying to others.
