Ovaries removed without HRT
Hi everyone
I'm back after a couple of years without posting.
I had my ovaries taken out in 2014 and i have done everything possible and more to lose weight. I am now at a point where not only can't i lose but i can't stop gaining. Now i am 25kilos more and increasing. This is obvioisly affecting my health. Tendon and bone issues . I am very sporty ans eat very healthily and i think im about to give up. I have spent 2years seeing specialists and finally considering stomach reducing op..2yr waiting list and may not even get on it.
If there is anyone out there who has managed to lose weight after pre menopause ovary removal without hormones i'd love to hear from you!
I am super worried about heart problems in future.
Thanks

Re: Ovaries removed without HRT
I'm naturally post-menopausal without HRT, and I'm doing everything I can to maintain my weight. One thing I highly recommend is increasing your muscle mass through regular strength training, which can help to offset the metabolic drop that comes with menopause; during the current situation, you can search YouTube or other online platforms for at-home routines that utilize your own weight or ordinary household objects. You also need to watch what you eat, for which the top tip is to keep a food diary, and don't forget to include all those BLTs - bites, licks, and tastes; many people tend to underestimate how much they're actually taking in, and it's amazing how all those sneaky calories can add up. Portion control can also help, which means filling at least half your plate with non-starchy vegetables; the remainder should include a serving of carbs about the size of your cupped hand, and a palm-sized serving of protein. And speaking of carbs, being smart about the types of carbs you consume can also help: high-glycemic carbs from white potatoes, sugary drinks, sugary spreads like jam or honey, refined grain products, and most packaged snack or dessert foods cause your blood sugar levels to spike, to which your body responds by pumping out insulin, causing those calories to be stored as fat; low-glycemic carbs from most fruits and vegetables, legumes, and whole grains come packaged with fibre, which encourages a more steady supply of blood sugar. Cooking and cooling high-carb foods creates resistant starch, which is more likely to be eliminated in your poop than stored as fat. Another top tip is to make sure your diet includes regular moderate servings of MUFAs - monounsaturated fatty acids from avocados, nuts and seeds, and olive oil, which can help by assuring your body that it's okay to let go of its fat stores. Wishing you all the best for a healthy, successful weight loss!

Re: Ovaries removed without HRT
Natural menopause is much different than surgical menopause as you no longer have ovaries and in natural menopause they still keep delivering even a small amount of hormones(estrogen, testosterone and progesterone). Is there a serious health issue such as previous cancer DX or clotting issue? Is there a family history of breast cancer from your mom, sister or daughter as those are the only close family members that cause the much higher risk to breast cancer. You don't have to answer these questions on here if it makes you uncomfortable but questions to ask yourself or a practitioner. If none of those are issues you might want to talk to a healthcare professional about bio-identical/human identical estrogen(these match identically to the form of estrogen that your ovaries previously made, so very natural). If you think you want to talk to a healthcare provider about hormones then ask to have a blood panel on estradiol, testosterone total and free and a thyroid panel that includes TSH, free T3 and free T4. When estrogen and thyroid are at a decent level it helps immensely in weight lose and maintaining weight once you get to a good goal weight. You still have to exercise and watch what you eat but at least your metabolism is working with you not against you.
BTW, normally an example of a form of estrogen that is excellent at maintaining good bone health(osteopenia/osteoporosis), heart health and brain health would be a .05 mg estradiol patch or 1 mg of oral generic estradiol. Those are just two examples as there are many choices in natural/bio-identical estrogens in which to choose.
If you can't use hormones at least make sure they are checking your thyroid panel so if it is running a bit low it will slow weight loss down to nothing.
Best of luck finding an answer and I hope you don't have to take a drastic route like gastric surgery.

Re: Ovaries removed without HRT
Thank you so much for your replies.
Yes, i had stage 1 womb cancer so they removed ovaries as a preventative measure and obviously no HRT.
It's been 4 ,years of doing everything i can not just to lose weight but to stop gaining! I've increased 6 .5 kilos since this Jan!! I've gained a total of 25kilos .I'm consodering operation but i have t ohave a fat index of 40 and an illness such a diabetis before i can be put on the waiting list. I have issues euth my back and tendons due to such rapid weight gain. I was very sporty and now getting injured all the time..even in swimming!
There is also the possibility of liposuction to get rid of visceral ( dangerous) fat .
Macrobiotoc diet is the only thing that has helped me lose weight but it is so so extreme..more than vegan and complicated that the longest i have been in it is 3 months then i decided life was too short!!
I'd love to hear from people ehobhave managed to control the weight under my circumstances ie obaried removed pre menopause and no HRT.
I will keep researching!!
Ps. I have also done Ayahuaska..very very extreme measure but it has worked eith anlot of conditioms thought to he uncurable!!!
Ps. I dont recommend Ayahuaska to anyone unless with a doctor present and with a serious therapeutic group.
