New Niece 2 Weeks Post-OP

I debated even posting this because I feel like my issues are not even close to what some of you are experiencing. If you are struggling, my heart goes out to you.

I am 24 and truly believe that my hysterectomy is one of the best things I could have done. Three weeks in and it is already life changing. The pain from surgery was nothing compared to what I have every month for the past dozen years.

I have two kiddos and I am good with that. My pregnancies were awful and I never wanted to experience that again anyway. Going in I felt like I was emotionally prepared.

But I wasn't prepared. The first few days were emotional as I came to terms with the fact that my identity as a woman hadn't changed. I thought I was okay.

Then, two weeks in, my sister-in-law gave birth. It was hard. Maybe because my own recovery felt so similar to postpartum. But I didn't have a baby to show for it. Maybe because only a few people know I had a hysterectomy so I'm not getting the same attention and well wishes. Maybe because I know I will never experience that again.

I have no regrets. It has just been harder on my heart than I expected.
