Traveling by Train Post Hysterectomy

I'm scheduled for a Total Hysterectomy via the DaVinci w/removal via the VaJayJay on June 19th. I'm planning to travel to Atlanta from Philly via Amtrak (15 hrs. train ride). Do you think this will be okay between the 3rd and 4th weeks of recovery??? Thanks.

Re: Traveling by Train Post Op

Everyone recovers so differently. You really should run it by your Dr. to be sure. I would think it would be ok,since you can get up and move around, but I sure don't know for certain. I had a TAH/BSO and rode in a car for 8 hours after only 2 weeks and I was fine, but we stopped often and I walked around for a bit each time.

Re: Traveling by Train Post Hysterectomy

Take pillows with you if you can. You still need a seatbelt on the train and it can bet a little bumpy.

Re: Traveling by Train Post Hysterectomy

Everyone does recovery differently, but I would definitely clear that with your doctor. That is a long time to sit on a bumpy train. Pillows and blankets are a good idea.

You also may not really feel like traveling and vacationing so soon after surgery. Are you going to stay and sight see?

Re: Traveling by Train Post Hysterectomy

Yes, be very cautious. It takes time to heal from this MAJOR SURGERY. Remember, no matter how they enter your tummy you will have lots of internal healing to do. You will probably still be very tired, or fatigue quite easily.

Can you put this trip off for a bit? Everyone is different, but that way you can really enjoy this instead of wishing you were home.
