I'm having a hysterectomy on 6/14/06 and I'm so glad I found this website. My dilemma is weather to have my ovaries removed. Doctor wants me to keep them, I am 42 and in pretty good health (controlled diabetes). Also, I was wondering if I keep my ovaries will I continue to have PMS symptoms around the time that my period would be starting. Oh by the way I am so scared about the possibility of post-op blood clots. Any insites would be appreciated. I need someone to talk too. Thank you. Sela

If your doctor wants you to keep them, why would you consider removing them? I went into surgery with the hopes of keeping mine, but they had to remove one. I did not want to go through menopause. Luckily the kept ovary kicked in about 5-6 weeks post op and the night sweats, insomnia and all that stopped.
Post op blood clots - I really dont know anything about. Someone else will have to chime in for that one sorry
PMS - hmmmm I dont *think* I have PMS anymore. DH may have a different opinion

Hello. Keep the ovaries if you can. They will give your body hormones that will last you lifetime. As far a PMS goes, I found a great supplement called magnesium that really works. It just calms. Take 500mg daily and you'll notice a difference. Good Luck. You know chocolate has magnesium in it! So go ahead and indulge

Hi Sela,

I agree with Labrady and Blondie44. If you re a good candidate to keep your ovaries why not keep them?? The ovaries secrete important hormones that help with the bones, skin and hair to name a few. Alo, newer studies are showing that the ovaries secrete hormones well into menopasue. A plus there. And as one Hyster Sister put it...the ovaries provide ~free~ hormones.

I am 48 and now 2 yrs. post-op. I am still so glad I kept my ovaries. They are still working great. I do get some mild PMS each month. Tender breasts and some mild irritability. Truthfuly?? It just tells me ~my little fellas~ are still working.

Best wishes. Don't worry. You will make the right choice for yourself.
