Dear Peggy - Hi, I'm less than 48 hours post-op, had my hysterectomy Friday, came home yesterday (Saturday). Believe me, all of us have been where you are, and this is the best place to bring your questions & fears.
I really tried to keep positive, and would NOT let myself get all worked up the last few days, and even the night before surgery. I have to say, the second I arrived at the hospital, every single person made me feel to at ease, and treated me with such compassion and dignity, that I felt totally comfortable.
I was fortunate to have two absolutely perfect drs. that took such good care of me that I wanted to kiss them when I woke up LOL!
Get your questions out here, get yourself as educated and prepared, and you will be just fine! Take care, and feel free to PM me if you have any questions!

Peggy,
I am also having a TVH because of uterus and bladder prolapse. I also live in your area, Joliet IL. I know your pain way to well, I am having surgery March 22, in a university hospital in Chicago. I wish you the best, and everything will go great.
Carrissa 24 years old.

I will be having my surgery on Feb.7, so it looks like many of us are going to be recovering at the same time. Your worries are normal, but rest assured you will be okay. I swear anytime I've gone under, I usually wake up saying "Have they done it yet?" As of now, I am scheduled for a LAVH RSO, it could always change to a TAH BSO which i am fine with too. Take care, and we will see you on the other side!

I had surgery for prolapse too. I understand the pain you are in. It is all going to go away. I am not telling you it will all go away immediately. I am starting to feel great. It is a slow process and your body needs plenty of rest. Take it easy and stay ahead of your pain with the meds they give you. You will do great. I do not regret any of it. Having to face an abdominal vertical incision I was terrified. They gave me a shot of something to calm my nerves right before they wheeled me to the OR. I remember making it to the hall way to head that way and thats it. I woke up in recovery and I swear to you the only pain I felt was needing to pee. Infact that was the only complaint I have. I had terrible bladder spasms. They can give you meds for it and they work great!
You really have nothing to fear. I know you will feel 100% better once they get you put back together. As for feeling different inside....you will! It isnt a bad different. Women who have prolapse have a feeling of everything falling out. I could feel everything. I could feel pressure. It hurt. The difference you will feel is that nothing is hanging. It is a great feeling.

Waving HI to Carrissa....I am near Joliet as well! I had my TAH in Joliet last week as a matter of fact.
Peggy, your fears are totally normal! I know everyone says the waiting and wondering is the worst part, and believe me it is. You will feel so much better once it is over with. Yes, the recovery is uncomfortable, but even with the post-surgical discomfort I can still feel how great it is not to have that big bulbous uterus in me anymore. Read up as much as you can here on HysterSisters - I know that being totally informed helped me more than anything else.

Hi there! I, too, am in the same boat. I have a third degree uterine prolapse. I just secured my surgery date today - I'll be going in June 7. At the same time I will get a TVT sling and there's a possibility that I may have to have A&P repair. I read your post and completely identifiy with it! All of the replies have helped me, too! I will be praying for you tomorrow and I look forward to hearing from you on the post-op board.
You have indeed found a wonderful site! My doctor has praised me several times for being so well informed and asking such good questions about all of the procedures. It's only because of this site!
Take some time today and just relax and look at how good you will feel after this is all over!
