My tips for your first days at home after your hysterectomy

Some of these I thought of before I went to the hospital, some I didn't. Hope this helps!

Have the person who picks you up from the hospital bring a small pillow or stuffed animal for you to hold against your belly. Every bump in the road is going to hurt, and I wish I'd known. You'll also want a "belly pillow" not only for when you're in bed but for when you're sitting around your home. Coughing and sneezing will freaking hurt. And if you do go out and about, bring one with you.

Ask whoever will be caring for you when you get home--and you will need someone to take care of you--to put clean sheets on the bed and have a clean towel for you.

I have a smart plug for my bedside lamp. It's a lot easier to have Alexa turn off my lamp than to have to reach up and pull the chain. You will have to have an Echo to do this, though. Trust me, it's worth it.

Have loose-fitting comfortable clothes. I got some capri-type pants from Groupon and I love them. Loose dresses without a waistband are also good.

Get a bolster or wedge to put behind your pillows. You'll be most comfortable if your torso is slightly elevated.

Make sure you have a mild laxative or stool softener, like Miralax or Colace. Some painkillers can cause constipation.

Get a grabber to help you pick things up if you drop them. You won't want to bend or squat for a few weeks.
