Silly question

Been browsing the site to find the answer to a question but can't find it.

First info...went to ER last weekend after "part" of me came out of vagina while going to the bathroom. ER doc told me that I have a prolapsed bladder and urethra and see my gyn immediately.

Get appt. with my doc on monday, but rare snowstorm comes to our land. They close down the doctor's office without telling me and don't open until Wednesday!!grrrr

Get to see nurse practioner and she tells me I have a level 3 or grade 3 bladder prolapse, a rectocyle (spelling?) and uterus prolapse. She said that we definitely need to have hysterectomy but I will need to wait until Monday to schedule.

Okay, I know it's Sunday, but I am trying to "plan" the rest of my life and am trying to get a gauge on how long it might be until I have the surgery. I have been in pain for a long time, even prior to organs falling out.

The big reason for the worry is that my son is getting married in June and need to be free to do all involved in that.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated!

Silly question

Welcome to Hystersisters!

We are a great bunch of women who are willing to share our experiences to help others through the process and there is no such thing as a silly question as far as we are concerned!

Basic recovery from a hysterectomy is 6-8 weeks but total healing can take 6-12 months.

But this really doesn't mean that you will be incapacitated for anywhere near the whole 6-8 weeks, yes the early days post op are hard but by 4 weeks (earlier for many) you can get out and about as long as you take rests.

Good luck with the surgery and I hope the wedding goes well

Silly question

You poor thing. I couldn't imagine having organs just falling out. I think the scheduling of the surgery itself isn't that long and recovery, like previous poster said is 4-8 weeks. A lot depends on the type of hyster you will have. This site is fantastic and filled with tons of info.
Good luck with everything!

Silly question

softballfan! It sounds like you had a lot to deal with, quite suddenly. A prolapse would be a very unwelcome surprise to anyone.

As you think about planning your life for the next few months, you may find our pre-op resources page helpful: https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/view_pre.htm. You'll find some information about surgery procedures, recovery, and links to resource articles. I found them very helpful as I was beginning my hysterectomy journey.

I am now six weeks post-op from a vaginal hysterectomy, and although I don't think I'm quite ready for running around and standing for hours and hanging up streamers, I could handle a wedding celebration--as long as I could put my feet up as needed. Even if you're several months post-op at the wedding, it would make sense to recruit some family and friends to do some of the physical work for you. That will allow you to sit back, relax, and enjoy the celebration even more.

Keep us posted on what your doctor says. I hope you're able to get scheduled soon so you can be as recovered as possible in June.
